I know very little about Arab breeding, I bought Pickle as I like Arabs and he is half Arab and very sweet and a great nature, I was reading Kanuma's thread but didnt want to Hi-jack it, but having looked on Allbreed I found Pickles paternal Grandad?

http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/calero

I just wondered if anyone can tell me how good or bad (please be honest) this bit of his breeding is and what lines it is :D
oh and on the pedigree thing it has different colours next to some, does anyone now what that means?
thanks

I'm afraid i'm not very good at arab breeding and don't recognise any of the names. However the little coloured blobs at the side just so where their is linebreeding (For example meaning that Calero's greatgrandsire is the same horse on both sides!) looks like alot of linebreeding went on in that family.

Sorry couldn't be more help! Good luck!

Calero was a Spanish Arab, who also had early Crabbet and Old English breeding way back in his pedigree through Nana Sahib.

http://www.ahlegacy.com/spanisharabianbackgroundhist.htm

Calero's pedigree is also on the Librogenealogico database in Spain.

http://www.librogenealogico.com/arbol.asp?ref=211749

There are relatively few Spanish Arabs in the world, and they do tend to be rather closely bred. In general they are very typy, grey horses (there are othe colours but grey is predominant) with big kind eyes and nice temperaments.

Aha - spanish Arabs - my turn to pipe up...

My own boy Pico is Straight Spanish, so I've been reading up on them for a few years.
Pico's pedigree, which you'll see also is linebred heavily to Congo, but through Zancudo on both sides whereas Calero goes through Tabal on the one side and Zancudo on the other: http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/jw+tampico

If you want a wealth of information on Spanish Arab lines, in addition to the several good sites up there, try also joining the yahoo groups SpanishArabianPromotions and spanish-arabians and look into the files sections and search the posts - some of the breeders on there have been involved with Spanish Arabs since the 1960s or 1970s.

From memory... - the Congo line through Zancudo is known for producing big, stretchy horses with a big athletic trot, and jumping ability. The Congo line through Tabal - both through Kadi (Calero's sire) and through his 1/2 brother Figuroso, are also known for big trots and particularly seem to produce horses with the ability to jump well and in correct form. (Arabs tending to sometimes be enthusiatic jumpers but a bit high headed in jumping form rather than showing a good bascule when they jump.)

you got me poking around nunder there again - found this in a bit written by Lisa Goodwin-Campiglio, who is one of the breeders I mentioned above, and a wealth of information on Spanish arab bloodlines:

"For example: Calero was outstanding in my mind. He had the movement, the
showmanship and the looks that caught my eye the first time I saw
Figuroso in 1974. In fact Calero reminded me much of Fig but was
taller. The same angulation if I recall correctly that churns other's
blood when they see Congo. Kadi , a Tabal son, Calero's sire was not at all
as pretty as his full blood sybling Jacio, but he was a trotting member of that
generation of Tabal sons." - Lisa Goodwin-Campiglio

I am glad you posted Pico! I was racking my brains trying to think of your screen name but I did remember you had a tall Spanish Arab boy!

I think I managed to trace Calero's last owners in Sweden? but other than that know very little about him, I cant even seem to get a picture of Pickles Dad though I am trying.
it would be so nice to learn about his ancestors :)
Pickle has a great attitude :D and he's Grey :D
This is Pickle a few weeks ago

I was shaking a plastic carrier bag at him the other day (long story was trying to get bute down Danny) Pickle took it off me with his mouth and shook it back at me. he isnt going to be big (however hard I wish) he is currently about 14.2hh but being a twin? I think it has affected his height as his Dad ML Benric is 15.2hh and his Mum (unpapered TB) is 16.2hh :(

(this photo was taken last August when I 1st got him)
I have spent hours on the allbreeds site, typed in each one of the 5th line of Calero's pedigree and am as far back as the mid 1800's now, beginning to go cross eyed, If I type all of it out will take me hours to do the full pedigree. can I apply to the AHS do they do pedigree printouts?

Click on the English button at the top
Then click on PRa - Arab
Select 'Aficinados' and click enter
Type Calero where it says 'name of horse'
You can put his sire in too, where it says and you should see his pedigree.

He is a nice boy!

thanks I got it this time :D
wish I could get a photo of him, there is a photo on allbreeds but it doesnt come up :(
I may have a picture of Pickles Dad coming :D but he isnt listed under Calero's as his off-spring
I may have found Pickles Grandma on that link you put too? I assume that since they are listed in the breed books that there would be only one of each name? gosh I know so little, never had a horse with service history before :)
