When you add somebody to your ignore list (User CP, Buddy/Ignore Lists) it hides their replies to messages from you.
You can see that they've replied to a thread, but the main body of their reply is replaced by a single-line message saying that you cannot see the reply because they are on your ignore list.
You can still see when they are online, check their user profile, search their old posts etc.
You would normally use the Ignore option if another user consistently annoyed you by posting pages of drivel: you don't have to wade through their pointless posts anymore!

Experimented with it? Moi?? Never ;) :D

if that is what a ignore list is then, then what is a buddy list? some one who you can see all the time,? the opposite of 'ignore list?'

does it stop them sending pms? i'm geting hassle from someone at the minute by pm, and i'd really like to block them, is that possible?

Vickie, there's only one way to find out - try it!

I haven't found much purpose for the buddy list, other than to remember who you like!

The buddy list *appears* to just add a small "+" sign in front of the chosen user names when you look at the list of who is online on the main index page. It's useful because you can see at a glance which friends are online.

As kyanya says, try it - but I would also report any inappropriate PMs to a moderator.
