Right I am looking for a new horse! After 12 years away from riding its time I was back in the saddle. Only problem is what do I get? The last one was a lovely TB ex racer, cost me all of £25 (not joking bought him from the meat man) now I know that I am going to have to pay considerably more than that! Only thing is what do I go for, a nice safe ploddy type to just hack gently round the lanes on, or something a little more 'sportier' that I can do the occasional ( and I mean occasional) competition on. The days of Badminton and Burghley are far far behind me now and I'm thinking more along the sedate lines of dressage for now, with maybe a little bit of sj as well ( if and when I havethe nerve to do it again). So any one got any ideas I'm 5ft 2 and a splodge and weight about 10 stone (ok I need to go on a diet but I am trying!) HELP please!!!

Why not get something in the middle! A light cobby type maybe, then you can do coloured classes, etc. but still hack...i think it's just a case of looking good and hard!

You could get something in it's mid teens that has done it's serious competition but wants a quieter life most the time and would be happier just hacking BUT you can still ask it to pick up the pace to a reasonable level when required.

How about a younger (below 10yr old) but sane type? That way, you get to build your confidence up and get accustomed to being in the saddle again. But... if after a couple of years you are ready to move onto something sportier, they will not be too old to find another home? :)

Or if you are good at schooling, you could pick something calm but green, and get the pleasure of bringing them on?
