Well, I did my first ever mini ODE on Saturday - only 2'3", but scary enough for someone who has only ever been xc schooling once and has never jumped without an instructor within earshot!
I was really pleased with Carlow, he was such a dobbin and not excitable at all (maybe the double dose of Magic calmer the night before helped ;) ) We were eliminated because I missed one jump out (the skinny, after I had almost come off at the previous jump where he took a front shoe and most of his toe off  ). I had never ever done steps on him but he did them and the sunken road no problem at all :D I thought the jumps were big and scary, but having seen myself on video I can see he hardly lifted his legs over them (very 'leggy' 17 hander, so they were just above his knees :o )
Got 8 faults sj (one swervy run out, one pole down) but had never jumped a 2'3" course, or indoors, so actually quite pleased!
Stressage was ok, didn't hang around for sheet so don't know score, but it was fairly decent - could have done with a whip as he was very lazy and I had to work harder than him, but a change from last dressage show when judge wrote 'well done for keeping going' as he was so naughty!
So, I am still scared of hacking out, but have done a ODE, so I am a nervous nellie eventer :D
Hope to do Solihull diddy ODE in September - once I remembered to breathe I actually quite enjoyed it and would like to do it again!
