These pics are from the end of last month. The jumps are all over 3' not exactly sure how much as I didnt meassure.

Critique all you want and as harsh as you want, so long they are helpful I know a few things but wont mention them as I would like too see what others have to say. :D

He is an 8 year old Appy gelding (if the spots didnt give it away :p ) Now jumping 3' with easy. As my coach says it looks like he is just "walking" over them... and it feels like it too. He will be mine come the beginning of next month and I will be taking him to out second hunter show (third total) on the 16th of that month.

This is my fave but its a bit hard to see... but I have faith that the wonderful people of NR will be able to see it and critique as needed! :D

Now this one really needs no critique but I love the pic... one word comes to mind SPROING!!! It has a wee bit of a story to it but will share the pic anyways.

They are great photos.... both your faces are full of concentration for the job in hand! You in particular seem to sussing out the next fence already.... whereas I would just have my eyes tightly closed thinking "Help!" :D

I think you look fine... I do have one little comment though - and feel free to correct me.... I was always under the impression that you shouldn't jump your horse in a standing martingale as they can be restrictive. Obviously I can see from your photos that this is not the case in the shots you have but I thought that a running martingale was the one for jumping???

The BSJA allow for standing martingales. They are only used for remidial purposes, and dont come into effect unless the horse hollows.

Agree on the martingale - running is better for jumping. Although this one is set pretty loose, it could still cause a nasty accident if the horse stumbled, needed to use it's neck and couldn't.

You're looking up and riding forwards, which is great. Your lower leg looks a bit too far forward and rather "braced". I'd try to soften the knee and ankle and let more of the movement flow through these joints. Bend your knee a bit more to get your lower leg under you, and this will keep your weight a bit better over the centre of gravity. In both 1 and 3 you look as though you've been a little "left behind", and in 2 and 4 you're bending at the hip, but the knee and ankle still look fixed and braced.

As you say, he's certainly comfortable at this size of fence, but as they get bigger and more technically difficult, he'll need more help from you, so I think it's important to work on your position and technique at this height before going any bigger. As you are now, if the fence were bigger you'd be gettubg rather unstable with those stiff lower legs. You may want to go back to caveletti work or smaller fences to work on this softness in the knees and ankles as it will feel a bit strange at first - but once you get the hang of it it will feel much better and make you more confident - a confidence which then passes on to the horse.

Does this correspond at all to what you thought? :)

Cheers

First off I linked the photos for those who cannot see them:)

The saddle I am using is not mine it is the saddle of a friend and the only one I have to use right now. It pushes my leg very far forward as you have noticed and this for the most is causing the bracing as I try to stop my leg from going even farther forward. I just had an interview for a new job on the past Friday and I should find out tomorrow if I got it if I do I can look right away into getting the saddle I know fits both of us really well .

I agree in pic 1 and 3 you can see I look like im standing in the stirrups and am braced (more in 3) and not as much in 2 and 4. While I dont always do this with this saddle I have noticed it more and more as it haddnt been happening in the last saddle I was useing or the others I had tried.

Still can't see them :(

Surely you shouldn't be jumping at all in a saddle that doesn't fit your horse perfectly???? Especially not at 3'+...

Have fixed the links again hopefully they work now.

This saddle fits him fine. Trust me he lets you know if something isnt sitting right. It does not fit me well as it pushes my legs too far forward for one thing.

As I said the saddle I will be getting fits both of us perfectly I never said this one doesnt fit him. :)

copy and paste the URL into a new window and they work.

Gorge horse!! Can only ditto from what others have said. Once you start jumping higher he'll jump in more of a bascule shape.. looks like he can get a little flat at times which won't help your position.

I would like to correct myself since I have taken a look back on the photos and seen htat none of my comments where needed or correct, I looked very fast at them and when took a better look realised that I was mistaken. You have a nice release in your pics... and I just read about not needing to critique the pics of the bank.. Though I would love to knwo the story behind that one. He still looks great init and looks like your doing the best you can with the situation.

1- Lovemyappy you can't blame your riding problems on the saddle, sure the saddle does some of it but you do it too, the saddle can't shove your legs that far forward.

2- Your arms are really straight in all of these pictures, you need to release more, and fold a little more, bend your elbows etc.

Just to add, for helping with folding, bend your knees and bring you leg back.

I would also like to add that you acually folded very nicely and once again I need to look more carefully and MRCDT is not in full right to say that the saddle cannot cause issue since, when I use my friends saddle it also pushes my leg WAY to far forward unlike in my saddle. Having the right saddle can make a big difference. MRCDT I think you also need to look more carefully and notice that her arms are bent and releasing. Photo timing can also acount for things you cant fully critique because you cant see the next second in the pics.

Kate where to start with you I dont know. but comming on here and "critiqueing" me when you know nothing is not something I appreaciate.

You yourself should know how a saddle not ment for you can put your body in a position that is not 100% ideal. You also know that this saddle does push my leg forward, but still not nearly as far as your saddle pushes yours. Now tell me Kate in what pics my arms are straight? Other then the one where it is a pic of my release? And once again you should not be "critiqueing" someone when you are guilty of ALWAYS catching your horse in the mouth because you dont release and dont follow. Not that I wish to turn this into a catfight but please unless you have something USEFUL to say dont say anything.

who's Kate? :S and why are you accusing me of things when you don't even know me?

and yes a saddle CAN push your leg forward but not to the point where it's almost on the horses shoulder. and your relase should not be sitting up straight and pulling.

erica this would be Kate that you're thinking of, and u are guilty of everything you critize me for, its kinda hard to be a crap Eq. rider and always do best in Eq. and have someone want you to show their horse on A's "cause you make the horse look so good" you just like to make ppl think they suck erica take a good look at your self before u critize others, and stop always jumping to conclusions, you are a RIDER not a COACH get that through your head PLEASE! and stop thinking you can boss me around all the time you don't own the barn or me and you ARE NOT MY MOTHER! and i do not always catch my horse in the mouth a few times when THEY ARE WEIRD JUMPS, you really need to stop putting others down get over your self!
