I did my horse owners at a BHS approved stable rathr than a college. There is very little hands on unless your tutor chooses. We did a little bit. Just to make the written exam make sense.
When I did it I found level one very easy but rather tedious as I knew it all from experience. The other levels are more interesting and need studying. I think but could be wrong you have to do all the levels from the beginning. Not sure if there is an age limit.
Saying that like all horse related activties I met some lovely people and had a few laughs.
If you do go ahead- Have fun!!

well to take the exam costs £60 and you can have the training or just follow the sylabus, which you can get online (cant remember where!)i think it is quite hard, you couldnt just do it without doing the work. some colleges do the course...i cant remember anything else about it!

Go to the BHS site....www.bhs.org.uk and click on examinations and you will see the list. Horse Owners Certificate is there and will give you all the details.

Yep that is probably the best way to do it and you will be more likely to get hands on experience! I did mine at one.

Did you start the Horse Owners course yet then? If so let us know what happened and what it is like.

I don't know where you lot have got your prices from, but there is no practical part, just a written paper & it costs £12!! There a four different levels, 1-4, each one becoming more complex! If I can find the sheet I'll scan it in & email it to you (if i can't post it on here!) I must admit though, if you've got £120 to do your BHS stage one riding & care, you'd be better off doing that! Missy.
