If you'd like to bring a new dimension into your schooling and have a few friends who can join in, have a look at the drill riding (http://www.newrider.com/How_To/Riding_Tips/drillrides1.html) page. It's got some very good animations to help with the moves.

Just looked at the page Mike:)

I did that in my lesson at the end of November. It's really good and I enjoyed it. It's not as easy as it looks though. I did it with 4 of us riding.

Another great page, I'm definately going to persuade my instructor to let my pony club do drill rides.
Anyone know of any other good moves?

I was in 4-H, and there is a class that we do called County Teams. It is sort of like drill team, but only with three people. You do a little pattern and are judged on how well you stay together, how well the horses match, and your form and stuff like that. The first time I did it, my friends and I just decided like half an hour before the class and didn't have any time to practice. This year, two friends and I did it, and we placed first at our county show, made it to districts, and placed second. We didn't even practice much, maybe an hour or so on the day of the show.

There's something called winadering (or wyandering) that Jeremy Michaels has done with people.

For any one who has done folk or country dance, its the drill equivalent of 'strip the willow' !

You have two groups, one facing one way on an outer circle, and the other group slightly inside on a circle facing the other way. The idea is that the two groups will weave in and out of each other. I have never tried it, and never seen, only heard about it.

I suspect you need to start with one group staying still then gradually build up.

Apparently Jeremy had people doing this at a trot at a demo !
