Oops, sorry :o Been busy with Pumpkin now on DIY and me now working too. Anyway, all is good, am absolutely LOVING DIY! :D Was definately the right move for me and Plumps. Also somewhere along the line, Ms Nervous Nellie Jo has departed and made way for the new improved Confident Jo, and me and Pumpkin are now hacking alone! We've had the odd battle, but I feel I know him well enough now to know that he's not going to do anything stupid when I get cross with him and insist we go the right way! Now he's at this new yard 10 mins from home, I'm riding more often, and we really are enjoying this hacking lark. I've just about given up using the sand school - he hates it, I hate it, major battle ensues and we both end up miserable, so I thought well, what's the point? Any schooling necessary can be done out on a hack. There's a show coming up soon at the end of our lane.... handsomest gelding here we come... maybe.... we'll see... :D
Thanks for asking after us Nic - looking forward to all the other waifs and strays coming out of the wood work and updating us!! :)

Thanks for the thought NoviceNic and sorry for not posting - I keep thinking will get some photos and post but keep forgetting to take the camera!
Twister and I have been getting to know each other and it's been great - he's over his lameness and I have ridden him in the school and even been out on a HACK!! Huge step for me to get out of my comfort zone!
He seems pretty chilled and laid back, comes to you in the field and sticks his nose into the headcollar (unless he thinks he can escape past you and the electric fencing into the lush paddock beyond! when he then has to be bribed in with a bucket!), will do what he is asked but no more - oh, okay, if you insist I WILL trot I suppose, what d'you mean keep trotting?, are you sure, well, if I must, what, canter? what you mean like this, one, two, three steps, nah, you don't mean it, walking is much better, especially if I drop my head like this, make you think I'm stretching down into an outline, and I can j-u-s-t reach the grass if I'm quick ...
I haven't got the hang of how to ask for canter yet ... :D Been working on getting him more responsive to the leg and getting better at walk to trot, but can't find the canter buttons yet!! By the time I manage to get him into canter (with lots of leg backed up by stick!) I've lost my position and exhausted myself so he drops back into walk, sneaky pony!
He's a loveable cheeky rogue who will take advantage and get out of work given the chance (typical pony I suppose!) but the best thing is - he's MY loveable rogue! Stand there looking at him sometimes and can't believe he's mine- my dream dun connie come true :D
Will def get some piccies and post them up!

Cant wait to see some more pictures of Twister. It will be nice to see you riding him. Grinning from ear to ear. :D He sounds very similiar to Captain when I first got him. He was very "Only If You Make Me". A bit more practise with your squeezes and you will both get to a happy medium. ;)
ETA: Just a thought about Canter transistion. Why dont you practise voice commands and lunge Twister. Then when you ride him ask for CANTER and he will transistion better for you, making it less stressful, bouncing around and getting tired from asking for the canter. Obviously this is only a term term solution as you will learn about clicking the right buttons.

Hi everyone.... :o
Don't know if anyone remembers me or not - I used to post quite a bit on here. Anyway - - now I have nearly had my horse for one year - :) already! I have have moved grazing twice and now have an arena where I graze and a nice long driveway to hack down. Fallen off 4 times, twice in one day :p , and once today - he got a fright coming back up the drive when a duck flew out of the hedge and my leg hit the fence that he was walking too close too!!
Just this week I have mastered canter with contact!! Good grief - but for some reason I found it really hard!! :D
Here's a recent piccy....

thanks RustyMary. He is a cool colour. I have not clipped him because I have not yet seen a nice looking clipped Palomino! :D - it's winter here. I don't do any 3DE's or the like so really no need.
Here's a close up;

I think when I was posting I was just buying him, I had an old grey who I fostered then adopted - still have him. :)
I really prefer this forum to one we have in NZ - it's alot more positive and more photos to look at. :)

Hey Novice Nic, thanks for asking. I have been stuffed with work and then away for a week, but am back now although not in the saddle - more below.
I have to tell you about our hols - OH took me to Spain (BIG birthday recently!) to see the Andalucian horses in Jerez - the Royal School of Equestrian Art. If i get to ride like those guys for just 10 mins in my life I shall feel privileged!! We saw some amazing riding and went to the Carthusian Stud. I also watched some training - I wish I understood spanish!! BUT I now understand what is meant by an independant seat. They seem to be able to move the lower leg without moving the upper; to shift weight in the pelvis without affecting the lower leg; and to simply think "flying change" and it happens....I am sick with envy!! The horses are so beautiful and so well behaved, I was moved to tears.
Of course I returned with every intention of imitating this, only to find that poor Pi went lame on Thursday and is now sporting a big bandage and poultice on his off hind. We think he has a puncture wound, but we cant see if there is anything in it, hence the poultice. I suspect its a bit of man flu (you know the one - every one has a cold but if you are a man, its flu and 10 times worse!!) but I'm not taking the risk - if there is no change on Monday we'll call the vet.
No piccies - Pi says he is too embarrassed with his bandage (even if it is blue vet wrap and not pink!)
Updates later
