I was just wondering, if the urge took me, this Sunday in particular, if I felt brave enough on the day, if Pumpkin behaves.... if I might just possibly enter him in the In Hand coloured class, and also the in hand handsome gelding class... as the show is down the end of the lane so can walk there... possibly... :o

But I don't know anything about how he should look for showing.. does anyone know of any good web sites that tell you all about this kind of stuff? And would I have to wear proper stuff, or could I get away with smart jods etc. Just in case, you understand... I may not even enter.... ;)

Ta very muchly :)

OK, it seems, now that I've also searched past threads on in hand showing, that there's lots to it - apart from what I wear, I don't know if Plumps should have a bridle or headcollar, or something different even. And I don't know how he should be turned out - I can't find anything on German draught horses and how they're shown :o Far too scary... think I might just hack him down there and let him soak the experience up ready for the next show in a few months! :D

MMIK - If you put pressure on yourself and take this show too seriously then you will probably get all het up and send some bad vibes to Pumpkin. My advise to you would be to wash Pump the night before. Leave him Eau Naturalle for the show. Enter Pump into the class with a bridle and his reins over his head as the lead rope. Many people show in hand in this way and are not knocked back for it at local shows. For yourself madam, a nice cool summer suit to compliment Pumpkins colours and a comfy pair of trainers or flat shoes. Hey presto you will smile all the way around and love getting your first rossette. Look forward to the pictures. :D

going ot spectate the first time is always useful - take the schedule, stand and watch the classes you'd be doing, and see what wins, how it is turned out, what its handler is wearing and what they do.
also less pressure while you work out what goes on.

This has been a useful thread forme too. Thanks for the links, Mehitabel!

For some reason, I seem to have entered a ridden show class for next weekend. I don't really know what's involved, and I'm worried I'll make a fool out of myself. I might still pull out, but it's good to know what it involves.

Good luck with Pumpkin, if you do decide to enter!

Hi Mad Mum - my first show I wore trousers, and a blouse and a sunhat. See piccy. We were not the best dressed but still were placed. It was a Golden Horse Inhand Show. :)

Garbo loved the fact that we were at a show and there was no plaiting or riding involved. He had such a good time. As you can see. It was a really nice relaxing day. Go for it!

VickyGG - what a beautiful horse you have :)

B&Rs Mum - Brilliant - I had that site bookmarked months ago but lost the link and couldn't find it again, so thanks so much!

Novicenic - Very sensible advice thankyou, but we're chickening out  Going to do what Mehitabel suggested and just check it out and see what the classes are like.

The idea of doing some little classes like the ones I suggested really does appeal to me though, so I'm going to do some work with Pumpkin, get him working nicely in hand - at the moment, when I try to trot him up he either refuses and plods in the usual manner, or gets all scared and shoots off in a canter and then I lose him cos he's too strong to hold  Don't wanna be doing that in the showring!! :D Thing is, he needs schooling and he hates being schooled. Not sure how to overcome that. But I suppose I could even do a little work in hand on the daily trek to and from the paddocks when I take him out/bring him in.

Thanks everyone, much appreciated.... I WILL get to a small show and have some fun, soon. But not til we're ready for it :)

MMIK. I think Pumpkin may well surprise you and be a complete angel on the day. I agree with the groundwork. Look forward to seeing the piccys soon. :)
