View Full Version : Why do you never have a camera when you REALLY need one?

Madam has learned to undo the clip on her lead rope. It isn't broken, it isn't loose, it's a bog standard lead rope trigger clip. I haven't got a clue how she does it.

The first time on Saturday I thought that it had been my mistake. She didn't go far she was just wandering around her haynet. I didn't really think anything of it. I knew that she could untie herself and that she doesn't like the lead rope dangling when she does so she had learned how to break the clip (pulls back to the end of the rope then flicks her head) without breaking the string (thoughtful!). How she's not broken the string I don't know because it's incredibly flimsy!

Anyway, it was her nap time and woe betide ANYONE who goes near her at nap time, you get the whole camel eating a wasp face! Talk about body language, my girl has got it off to a t!

Because it's absolutely pointless trying to do anything with her when she's having a snooze I went to watch one of the kids have a lesson. It wasn't long and about 20 minutes later I mooched back to the yard to find the lead rope dangling, catch intact but no Saff!!! I went straight away to the feed bins but she wasn't there (strange). Then someone shouted that she was in the stable block at the opposite side of the yard. When I got there she was heading back to her net with a Waitrose carrier bag between her teeth looking very proud of herself! In said carrier bag were some squished up apples where she'd obviously sampled them before she stole them!

I wish I'd had a camera because she looked so funny coming back with the carrier bag in her gob :)

hehe:D

It always amazes things they can manage. Brodie too has recently learnt to untie himself but I've no idea how. String still intact and quick release knot was tight with the end tucked through (so in fact it's no longer a quick release at all  ). Had my back to him, picking out Pink's feet to feel a hot breathe in my ear as he's come over to help. Gods it gave me the fright of my life  Thats the fourth time he's done it in the last weeks.

Fluke worked out how to undo the "equitie" I bought him quicker than I did! Took him 30 seconds -- I'd fiddled with it for ages. Waste of 3 quid that was.

I thought he'd worked out how to undo quick release knots too as I found him undone (but standing on the end of the rope -- no need to call him Houdini just yet  ) twice in 10 minutes. But I now think it was his mate Del untying him from across the fence.

Maybe some little surveillance cameras to catch how she does it? I'm rather intrigued now! :D
The things they'll do for apples eh? About 4 years ago, I was competing at a show with Cheek, and I won a bucket of carrots in the morning. It was sweltering heat, so I put them in the shade at the front of the float. We sat and had some lunch, while Cheeky pretended to sleep, tied up at the side, but I noticed him flicking one eye open every few minutes, watching us. Finally, I had to go and walk the show jumping course, so everyone walked away. I was only gone for 20 minutes, and when I got back, there was one very smug looking appaloosa, who had untied himself, who had bolted nearly a full bucket of carrots! He must have been in a right hurry because there was carroty slobber everywhere.
He found jumping 3ft 3 a bit of a struggle that afternoon, but guess what we won for coming 3rd in the class? Yep, another bucket of carrots! :D

I would have loved to have seen that photo of Saff though! But you painted a great picture with your story. :D

:D Love it :)

Whoever says that horses are dumb has obviously never spent time with one!
