this will be D's 2nd jumping show. I have no problems remembering anything as fare as the course but i've always had problems with getting in an extra stride or slowing down... what can i do to make these easyer? i'm only going to do X rails b/c we haven't shown for about 4 or 5 months lol. Also i'm worryed i might forget my position and fall apart anyone who knows of something i can do. I would love the help!

walk the course exactly the same as if you were riding it.Count the strides between the fences.Related distances are anything less than 6 horse strides between the fences and unrelated is anything over that. Once you know how many horse strides there are between the fences try counting them in your head as you ride so you know when to take off.

If you are worried about your position I would go for getting that right, giving your horse a chance to get the take-offs right himself rather than riding into a stride. If you can approach each jump straight and from as big a distance as possible (going right into any corners), at a nice balanced pace, let them decide when to take off - if it is only X poles they cant go far wrong and will be able to recover. That takes one thing off your mind so you can relax and get your position and balance nice and controlled.

Good luck! Looking forward to pics....

I'll do that, i'm going to go out and ride today and do a little jumping over some ground poles and some X's to get us back into the swing of things. So i'll make another post tonight on how things went.

Well the first thing i can say is a know me and D were going WAY too fast over our jumps. I had little X's set up maybe just over a foot and he was putting some power out. Maybe thats just how he jumps? i would try to slow him down but he would put his head up and just totaly stop all together. His over all lopeing was really too fast.... i could be wrong b/c we were balanced and we moved together well but ... seemed like we were too fast. I tryed troting him up to the jumps and that seemed to slow him down a little... Is there something i might have been doing to make him go so quick?? he hasn't been schooled in 2 or more weeks so it could be that??

Yep, being fresh would def. have something to do with it. You can't not school a horse for 3 weeks, then get on and start jumping and expect him/her to be as docile as when you ride every day. You could also be tensing up, or your horse could just love it or be bored of jumping x-poles: if he's jumping confidently then raise them to give him something to think about.

This would explain the fresh behaviour, the perfectness would be because you rode him the day before and so he was not fresh.
