so i isigned myself up for camp.
you may all be wondering... camp? and your 18? Yes camp. We have a 1 1/2 - 2 hour lesson every day followed by lunch and pool time, so its not tooo childish. Anyway I was put on a palomino named Taz, who recently kicked up his heals out of excitement, losing his passenger causing her to shatter her ankle.
So of course I was a little worried about him, since i'm still in the process of learning to canter, etc. Anyway first day sucked, He bulges ALOT and tends to not bend and ignores gentle squeezes. I got maybe 2 strides of canter out of him.
2nd day, much better, this time steering was horrible out in the big ring, and he kept bulging and running with me towards the roundpen. managed to make a mess out of a grid, but we got on a bit better.
TODAY, I CANTERED FOR A SOLID 5-10 minutes, and even did a crossrail course. He still bulged, and managed to almost run me into the roundpen twice, (we were out in the big ring) but when i started to use my aids more effectively, I was able to stop him from bulging so much at that corner and got a nice frame out of him!
Also, had a hair-raising moment. Was supposed to trot up to the first fence, canter out and canter over the second fence and turn left. did the fences fine, but he decided he wanted to go right, while I was intent on going left, So we almost parted ways! Thankfully my heal was down and I was able to stay on, and rather then bring him to a walk, I continued to CANTER HIM and made him do that fence again and go left albeit this time in the trot.
I'm all smiles. :D :D :D
I've only been with my new trainer 2 weeks and already made so much progress. My old trainer, if you can recall that dilema, was not only making me miserable, but really holding me back.
