Do any of you here work at the stable where you keep your horse to help with the cost of your board?
I want to buy a horse, but the only thing that's stopping my dad from allowing me to have one is the veryyyy pricy cost of board at the only barn within driving distance of my house that has an arena.
If any of you do do this, mind sharing how much your board is to start and how much it is after you've done chores at the barn?
Thanks :)

It can tend to be very different among barns, cities, states, countries..& the only way to find out is to ask the barn personally. I know barns for $200 board and barns of $2000 board and I know barns that offer half board (where you do your own stall) and others that don't you will just have to ask them. If they do not offer half board you may want to suggest using your horse for a lesson horse. I know of many barns that will offer a lower price on board if a personally owned horse is able to be used as a lesson horse also for a couple lessons a week. Good Luck. :)

Well at my barn, I *THINK* that if you work there and have a horse there you still get your paycheck, then cash it in, and pay the board fee. I would presume this way to be easier/less complicated becuase then you aren't being ripped off by working more hours than the board is worth, or vise versa!
Just my opinion!
Good Luck getting a horse :D

I agree with Galooop. If you go working for stable get paid then pay board.

I no at the stables i work at they take in bourd but you only get a discount and still have to pay for all feed and muck out your own stable but they do provide hay and carrots and you have to let your horse be used for lessons, if i were to board there i'd pay $45 AUS plus pay for one lesson $40 which isn't too bad at all
