I just thought I would update on my earlier posts about our first show. The show was on Saturday, and I am so pleased to have done it.
The first class we entered was a mixed breeds ridden showing class. After 2 circuits of the field, I had to leave this class, because Misty was very over excited (bucking, prancing around and bolting). Of course, it didn't help that I was very nervous (could hardly eat my breakfast in the morning). She really picks up on that. I posted a pic of us in this class here: http://www.newrider.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=84925.
A few hours later, we did a prelim dressage test (61 percent!). Misty was still a bit excited and easily distracted, but we didn't make a fool of ourselves this time.
Here is a little video clip of the test, with an unfortunate spook right at the end of the test... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UpQcE_b9Hbs
This was our first show, and we mainly did it to get experience. It certainly made me realise how difficult it is to ride at a show! There are so many distractions, other horses, lots of people, lots of noises... I simply could not get Misty's attention. She was winnying at the other horses and generally quite full of herself. I wonder how the other riders (well, most of them..) managed to keep their horses under control so well. There was a 10 year old girl in the showing class, who did ever so well!
I did enjoy the dressage, because I know I can do it and riding in an arena feels familiar and safe. However, I don't think I'm cut out for this showing business. I'm not used to riding in a big, open field with other horses cantering around! I get nervous, make my horse nervous and consequently ride badly. I prefer a nice long hack any day. :-)
