Firstly is anyone else competing there?

Secondly - Help!!!!!!!!!

I am doing the Prelim 13 and then the Novice test 6.

I have only just got Gabrielle back from the stud (to which she didn't want to have a go at!) and am going to be practicing the tests from tonight onwards.

Do they give you set times to compete? If so when will I know.

What should I wear? White jodhs, show shirt, Black jacket?

Should Gabby be plaited up? She is a Section D.

All help wil be gratefully recieved.

Firstly no, dont even know where it is!lol

Secondly, what is Nov test 6? It dosent exist on the new tests?

Yes they give you times to compete, you call the centre on the number given, at the times stated on your schedule.

Clothes will be fine, but you MUST wear gloves aswell. She dosent have to be plaited.

Thanks MeMe.

You made me laugh. Yes I will be wearing clothes, (thank god everyone sighs!)

Good point about the gloves, should they be white or black or brown?

Would I get more points for being turned out plaited? I don't mind pulling her mane and plaiting as won't be showing her in breed classes for a long time.

Not sure about the Novice test 6 but the sheet I was given is :-

British Riding Clubs Novice Riding Test 6 (2005).

What ever colour you want really, I'd go for black though.

You dont get extra points for plaiting, it just completes the overall picture if wanted, but on a Native you can t/o to breed spec.

Dont know what the test is then, not up on Riding Club tests and such, but if its what they have supplied then thats it :)

the riding test is judged on your riding, not on the horse...

You shouldn't get better marks for turnout, so as long as you're neat and tidy and have the correct tack (check what the current rules are if in any doubt) what you've suggested wearing sounds fine. also, if you were thinking of using them, check the rules on whips and spurs (sorry, haven't competed RC for several years, so I don't know what the current rules are).

Thanks MeMe and Ross.

Actually I was wondering about spurs. Am I allowed to wear them then? And whip - not a schooling whip surely?

i have done affiliated and riding club with my Welsh D and not plaited him - certainly never affected any of our marks. i like turning natives out to their breed standard, no matter what discipline they're doing.

re: whips and spurs - spurs are definitely allowed. schooling whips are allowed at the qualifiers, but not at the championships.

Thanks Star.

Okay

If I am completely cr*p at it will they laugh at me?

Nope, she wasn't having any of it!

Perhaps she wants to become a Nun!

I don't understand it as she was in season every month last year but I cannot remember seeing her horsing this year at all!

Oh well, just have to compete her more won't I?

With regards to spurs for your Riders Test, I would check with the rule book. I seem to remember when I did Riders Test I was not allowed spurs - this was several years ago, so things may have changed.

I think you're right re spurs not being allowed in the Riding Test. We did one last year and although I wasn't wearing spurs, I'm sure one of us had to take them off and we weren't allowed whips either.

I also seem to remember having to wear light-coloured gloves for the RT (I usually wear black ones and I'm sure I bought a pair specially). I'm not sure if this was on a friend's recommendation though or if it is actually in the rules but you might want to double check.

Thanks everyone but must really admit that I don't feel any more confident at all.

I rode Gabby on Monday (She was hacked on Sat and Sun) and it felt terrible.

I didn't even have a chance to practice either of the tests!

Yesterday wasn't able to ride as had to go to daughters Awards night at school which started at 6 and we got there at 6.10 after fixing the electric fence which the horses has decided to go through!

Anyway only have to night, thursday, friday and Saturday to practice both tests.

I really wanted to hack her on Saturday so that she could relax.

HO - Hum fingers crossed.

Don't worry too much, just go and enjoy.
I can remember fetching my horse in once and she was lame, she was due to be doing dressage and riders test for my riding club. I dragged my pony in from the field and took him instead, I hadn't ridden him for days, let alone school him and he ended up doing a better test than my mare would have done:)
