Captain has had a complete makeover. What does everyone think?? I know a lot of you didnt want me to get rid of his lovely locks but personally I think it desperately needed a good chop so he can see where we are going around a jump course. :p He has also had his beard trimmed. Isnt he sexy*wolf whistles*

I did notice that when I bought him in he was absolutely dripping wet under his mane so yes it will help in this heat. Of course it has started to rain now I my friend has trimmed him.

Aww, he looks good, although he can go either way!

Apart from his body he looks like a different horse.

He looks lovely now but he has lost that characterful look that captured me when I first saw him.

He is still such a pretty boy, though and I am sure it will be easier to keep clean in the winter.

Give me time - I'll get used to it:cool:

Phew! As I scrolled down the page I thought I was going to see something more drastic- but, no, that's good, that's good, not too much off and Captain's looking smart but still pretty.

He looks lovely, before and after!

Relieved though - thought you might have gone for the short back and sides, and Captain looks so dashing with flowing locks .. :)

Nice compromise between long and unruly and hogged Nic!! I personally think he'd look great hogged though;)

He looks 'show ring' smart now, and I'm sure he is cooler... are you planning to keep him like that or is it a step towards hogging?!:D

I can tell by the replies that you are not all convinced I have made a good decision. ;) Whatanejit - the before shots were in the Winter. Captain will be more hairier then. I feel it was a must to have him trimmed up. The mane can then have a grow but at least it will be thinner and less brittle. :( I am sure you will get used to it. Besides it will only be 4 months and it will have all gorwn back again. His Summer coat has already started to shed. Only seems he has had his Summer coat on for a month.

HC - I cant see me hogging him. If I can get his leg sore's sorted out then I will have a go at showing him. If I cant get them sorted out and I desperately want to try showing then I may hog. After seeing Cazriders Apache pictures. I would hog leaving a forelock as I think it is less harsh. Can I show hogged with a forelock??

I actually think I like him after trim, and I'm an 'au-naturel' kinda gal;) He definately loooks much smarter!

Following on from HC, I also think he'd look GORGE hogged - how big is he NN? If he's over 14.3hh and under 15.3hh he'd make a fab show cob :D

Go on, you know you want too ;)

How's the jumping coming along btw?

He is smack on 14 2hh with his shoes on. As for hogging. I really am only going to hog if I cant get his heels sorted and I do really badly with my jumping and resort to Showing to win some rossettes. ;) As for my jumping Chickflick, I am going through a wobbly patch. I have just discovered I need more impulsion and impulsion means more speed but I struggle to control the speed. However I am trying very hard and have got some good vibes from DD and other NR members from the showjumping forum. Also spoken to my RI tonight who is giving me loads of support. I am going to a local show on Sunday and having a go at 2ft clear round. I cant talk anymore about it as I start to get quezy. :o

Did you cut or pull?

I keep checking on the photo daily and he is gorgeous. It must be soo difficult looking after such a long mane - definately growing on me - hope I didn't offend you by the way:o

NN, I am going to PM you later, you sound exactly like me regarding the jumping;) You're not alone :)

To hog or not to hog, that is the question. Because of his height though, there is no point hogging him for show cob so keep au-naturel :)

He looks lovely and very dapper now - i think it's just the right length. Pleeeeze don't hog him (if you do I'll find out where you live and come round and hog you!!)

He does look lovely NoviceNic. If he were mine I'd probably hog him, but I can completely understand why you like a mane. :) I actually really like those clean legs... says she with a au naturel section d.;) But I must admit I do think Sennie's tiddly feathers are pathetic. If he wasn't a section d and someone on my yard would kill me, I'd have them off (runs and hides:p )

Incidentally I showed Apache locally and plaited his forelock. He did fine, although if you were to take him to county level they wouldn't like it.

Oh, I do like the new haircut more than the before pic! He is sexy! It looks so pretty and styled, kind of like the way a person does when they come out of the hair salon. Does it still look so nice, or did you groom it for the picture and it usually looks more messy?!

It has actually been very difficult when long. No matter how often I sprayed and grromed him his mane would always be in ringlets the next day. :( My RI pulled it. I think it just really needed a good tidy up by a professional. I am not very good and use a solo comb. :o
