You need to be really fit to ride them on.... plenty of leg.... and to have plenty of effective leg...you need good balance...and to have good balance you need to not be flopping all over the place with dodgy hands....and all of the above usually has to be done in a saddle that does not fit you and hurts you in places that should not be hurt:eek: :(
coming back to flatwork after riding responsive horses is not easy and is showing up all my bad habits and lack of fitness.
I am finding it hard being balanced in a normal canter because im so used to riding in a light seat for cantering out in the fields- my feet keep coming out of the stirrups cos I cant keep my heels down.
Bring back the days where staying on was all that mattered :(
I need to get a horse and just go round and round in a half seat to strengthen my calf muscles and to do lots of sitting trot to re-gain my balance. But its hard when you only ride once a week :(
