hi,

I have a 6 yr old section C x mare. She is about 13.1hh. I have owned her since she was a yearling. She had a beautiful little foal three months ago. I am now starting to really look forward to riding her again when the foal is weaned but don't have a saddle!!!
last summer she was in a 16" extra wide wintec GP with Cair, but as she has a coffee table back it slipped a lot!!!
I am 5'1, 26 yrs old and weighing about 9, 1/2 stone.

What sort of saddles do you think suit adults on ponies? Treed or treeless? Would like to do some competing if i can, sj & xc and trec etc so what do you think might suit us?
I suspect that when she is fit her back will change quite a bit too as she is very round at the moment!!!

If I went treeless, would i be able to get one that would fit the foal too? she is Arab x sectionCx!!

Would really appreciate your advice, I know I've got ages before foal is weaned but at least thinking about the saddle is one step closer!!!

flat backed horses (i have cobs) i have found that Ideal Jessica seems to fit quite well.

as for the treeless or treed question, I have a treed saddle - I did have debates with my saddler on this and she didn't rate treeless - but i don't want to start the who is right on this or not.

other that seem to fit wider flat horses are Black Country. I found that the synthetic ones didn't work at all, they tended to flex too much and either fitted at the front but bounced at the back.

My best advise would be to Demo what ever saddles you are interested in. Both Treed and Treeless.
Have been on a saddle search for 2 years and now at 30 saddles,, and a new one coming at the end of the week. This time it is a Dartmoor Treeless.

Here is a good web site on Treeless saddles. They are more likely to fit more types of horses with just one saddle. Some like the Star Trekk have panels so there is clear spine clearance, to the Dartmoor which I have been told has built up panels.

I have a Star Trekk comfort being made for one of my mares. The Grey mare I am still shopping for.
All my horses are very wide and round, one has no withers at all too boot.

Good luck in your saddle search!
