Oops!
Maybe the 1'6ft clear round wasn't such a great plan after all  we got over two jumps ok (if a little uhm speedy). for the third you had to turn. im a rubbish steerer at the best of times. went over the jump but when we landed, angel tripped up and went down and i somehow went out the side door. all in slow motion (or so im told ...) next thing i know i'm on the floor, pony behind and i just thought 'scramble away now, we dont want the pony rolling round and squishing you' ...
angel was fine, so was i (my foot hurts a bit now, maybe she fell on that a bit), so i got back on, did a couple more jumps and then ended up getting a ticket to do the whole clear round again (this is VERY out of character for me! never have i been so brave!). we did half of it, then she knocked one down, so i did two more and called it quits. no rosettes for us then  i think i will make angel a rosette myself though, because she is the bestest pony in the world!!
(she did look somewhat embarrassed though, standing there, one side covered in sand ...)

years ago I was out hunting and we were queuing up to go down a narrow path, across a muddy river bed/gully and up the other side. I was ridng a nutty part arab who decided he couldn't wait in the q, so he barged forward and leapt off the top of the bank into the gully (a drop of about 15 ft!!) collided with the horse in there, fell over and went down on his side with me underneath - in the mud.
Ne and I were plastered all down one side lovely chocco colour plus it smelt!! Plus trying to get out of there without leaving my boots behind. I had to have a good laugh as it was comic but by did it hurt afterwards. We met up with the people we were out with, clean side facing, then we turned round and they saw our chocolate side....
Daft boy, sadly long gone, he was a nightmare to take anywhere as he could never make up his mind to be first or last, and would never stand still used to come back exhausted!

@ big ears: eeek that sounds terrifying (but amusing nonethelless!)!!!
im still not sure why pony went down (exmoors are meant to be surefooted arent they? and she is most definitely not daft!) ... i hear we got to the jump a) too slowly and b) at a somewhat dodgy angel.
note to self: practise that steering more BEFORE attempting a clear round again!

In that case let me just say
WELL DONE NOTPOODLE!!!
Thought it deserved a bit more fanfare ;)
When I was 'ickle I went on a riding holiday with a friend. There was another girl there who was a really good rider and the owner spent all week telling us what a brilliant natural rider she was and how she would go far. The owner didn't seem to like me much :( On the last day there was a jumping competition. I'd never jumped EVER BEFORE and was terrified. But I had a go, and just scraped through to the second round in very bad style, mostly in walk, looking a bit like a monkey up the pony's neck  Owner's pet got eliminated. A halt was called to proceedings, then the owner announced that as this girl hadn't got through, it had obviously been unfair and the competition would be restarted. This time I fell off at jump 2, smacked the back of my head on the poles and was eliminated, while owner's pet won. My head hurt, and I was quite shaken. I refused to jump again until I was 27.
The point of this ramble is that it really does take a lot of courage to go back to jumping after a fall and a seemingly small incident can stay with you for a long time. So full credit to you, and I hope you keep jumping and don't let anything put you off again cos even at our pitiful heights it's good fun :D
Phew, essay over :p

I hope you do not ache too badly :( Accidents happen and try not to dwell on it and think that it might happen again as is may never not!
Big kisses to Angel for not squishing her mummy too :)
(1ft 6 is my limit too ;) )

Talk about owner's pet. When I had my first horse I kept her at livery in Godstone in Surrey for a very short while. The woman who owned it was very rude and used to the **** out of anyone that was in the least bit nervous. There was a girl (or shoud I say ***) that worked there who used to copy everything she said and did. It was so sad. She thought it ok to tell peeps how useless they were and they shouldn't be riding etc. Needless to say I left there after a few weeks. This girl was indeed the owner's pet. Thank God the place packed up soon after I left! If she's still into horses and sees this post, I hope she recognises herself. None of then had any time for peeps who were novices or nervous

but, please reassure me, is this something that can happen once in a while (toppling over when landing because of poor steering etc) or should I be worried now that I have a pony that falls over?

You are brave!
Made me laugh to think of you trying to "muscle in" on the lead rein class!
I am sitting here with a wonderful mental image of you arguing with mummies with their little darlings in tow!

Notpoodle, its usually a oneoff. have you seen the pictures DAVIDH posted of him and Ed at one of his recent shows? Ed fell to his knees right before the jump, and ended up knocking it all over. It happens, same as you slipping or tripping and falling over. You aren't afraid to walk because you're a "person who falls over" are you?

Ouch!!
Ponies falling over does happen every now and again - especially when tripping after an awkward jump. Friends welsh C once lost his footing over a little xc jump, tripped onto one of his knees and she tumbled off in the process. Never happened again after that, just one of those things!

Well done for getting back on and getting on with it!
I know what you mean about all these little kids whizzing about without fear...:D
Never thought I'd be jealous of a small child! ;)
