Ceryn has been in a rope nose sidepull since she was first backed, we manage ok usually going down the road, and I thought id cracked the steering so took her out on the road the other way for a hack (her first proper hack) Ive never had a problem with brakes, shes always just stopped when asked and come back to me when trotting.
But I took her out on the roads, everything was going great, past lorries, cars, flappy bags, birds diving out of bushes, mad welsh foals cantering around and horses screaming out to her, she didnt bad an eyelid at anything (not even the foreign man in the lorry clicking at her), she stopped to have a look at the horses and her neck got higher but when asked to walk forwards off we went again (susie was being very spooky so we put ceryn in front:D )
We were doing fine until near the end of the lane we met some pensioners in a car going past the gate Ceri had had a look at, she suddenly started trotting towards the pensioners car and I had no control, steering gone and no brakes:eek: managed to get her back and appologised to the couple, said it was her first time out and they were very good about it, thankfully.
But then all down the road she was marching on and wouldnt wait for Susie, I had to turn her in a circle to actually get her to stop.
Shes also been a bit odd about having her bridle on recently, which she usually is fine with (pushed her nose in).
Ive been very reluctant to change her bridle as shes been ok in it and had it on since first backed, but its not safe for her to be charging off, so, in these circumstances, would you change the headgear?
