I'm sure this bad habit that I have developed will just take time to correct, but I'm hoping that someone will have insight, tips, or ideas on how to correct it sooner.

The problem with my leg position is that when I ask my horse to move forward with my calves, I seem to turn my leg so that the back of my calves are squeezing, rather than the inside of my calves. Not only will this keep me from placing in classes, but it is a bad habit that I need to fix, and it is an improper way of riding.

Has anyone/is anyone struggling with this bad habit? Any exercises or tips to work on fixing it? I'm just coming back from a bad fall from which I sprained my elbow, so I am basically back to the drawing board on working on using the inside of my calf rather than the outside.

All tips are appreciated!

Well if you are using the outside of your calf (which I can't imagine to be too comfty) then it also means you are jabbing your horse with you heel. I don't have any real tips...just always consiously be thinking about toe foreward, heel down and back!

A good way to help your problem is to do just as Galooop said.. Just concentrate on always squeezing with the inside of your calf, and eventually the habit will go away. I used to have the same problem. Sometimes your calves get a little sore once you start learning to squeeze with the inside of your calf again, instead of your heel.
