As title, I have some brand new saddle accessories...customed tooled taps, complete matching flank cinch set, two latigo cinch straps, all in rich oak...to sell on (replicated gift!) and I wondered if anyone knows of any good western sites (UK) I could look at? I tried ebay already but no luck...plenty of english tack buyers, not so much westerners...:(

Appreciate any ideas,

Thanks!

one of the western sites, possibly the western shop ? has a link to ebay so you kill two birds with one stone.

there is western stuff on eBay but remember there's not so many western people in UK to buy it !

I would agree ebay is normally the best bet, but you have to be very careful about what you put in the title so searches for 'western' etc will bring it up, esp for unusual stuff like that.
The other option woud be to get in touch with AQHA, WES and WHA and put adverts into their newsletters/web pages or go along to a show and talk to people, maybe print a flyer to hand out.

Hi cvb

Didn't know you were into this this much. Obviously any advice (much needed I might add) would be gratefully appreciated.

We are going to train Colonel to go western. He is being schooled professionaly and is going fantastically. He is my husbands horse and he wants to go western. Please advise on any part of this transition. Obviously money is not never ending and would appreciate budget ideas as long as they have been tried and tested.

If all goes well Gabrielle will be trained aswell.

My daughter wants to do this too but I think this is because her father and I are doing it.:o

With Fi I was going the other way - she was backed (professionally) western and then I introduced her to dressage. I find there is a lot of cross-over and doing the dressage work has made her jog better :)

Basically if you have a soft, balanced horse who is working to weight aids - its going to easier to introduce western (or dressage in my case).

I think the problem going dressage/english to western is most often that we drive our horses forward so much that asking them to collect and *slow* is hard for us and them, while maintaining the energy and it not just turning into a sloppy strung out mess :(

Its also often difficult for the rider to stop micor-managing with the reins and allow the horse more room..

When I got my GP saddle I almost did a mini, rapid "reback" to introduce the different saddle. I would definately do this when introducing a western saddle as they touch in different places and are rigged differently (rear girth especially).

For initial training you would be in a snaffle rein, using direct rein aids - so you can make the change that way and progress to curb and one-rein from there.

But the others may be able to comment more ?
