my daughter has just been on junior pony camp on our shared cob, who i know is too big for her at 15hh but she has had great fun. i recently changed my mares bit to a waterford which she seemd to get on with but on day 2 at pony camp they changed her bit to a magenis saying my mare was leaning on the waterford and my daughter didnt really have any control. my daughter who is 10 by the way said she felt a lot better to handle and stop etc. i have never heard of a magenis before but obviously if my mare is better in it i will get on but what do you think of them, do they work? thanks :)

I'd never heard of this either, but if you go into shop4bits.com, or do a search, you can find some info. on them. I was quite impressed when I read about them.

Is it a Magenis snaffle? I've heard of it but never seen one in use. I think it may be for strong horses/ponies. I have a feeling it's milder than a gag etc. Perhaps someone else would have a better idea.

I know a few horses ridden in them that seem happy enough. They do give a bit more control than a plain snaffle. It's a square mouthpiece which is less gentle and harder to ignore than a plain snaffle, there are little copper rollers which some horses seem to like and the copper rollers make it a bit harder to lean on.
