Just a little thread to let you know how we got on today, to save me PMing all you long reiners who may be interested.

This long reining is a bit of amusement to everyone on the yard I think - they just pass it off as another of my mad ideas:o

Thought I would try in just a head collar today. Bad idea!!!!! Set off with a huge audience up towards the woods in the grounds, found out quite quickly that we had no brakes and little steering and the grass is very tempting and my mum has little control over me.:D :D :D .We will have to work harder on this one!!!!! Lots of laughing from audience, who are not doing any work with their horses, just drinking tea and coffee in our new marquee.

Came back and put on bridle and set off again, had a little jog up and down the woods and two or three jumps and then long reined him down to his field (about 1/2 mile) which needs a little steering onto the main road.

Was in the middle of the road a bit;) , but once we got into the barracks that he lives in we got the hang of it, so a little more work round the road there and eventually he was back with his friends!!!!! Will try again tomorrow:o

Well done! It takes a little getting used to on both parts, doesn't it? I "treated" Cherry by LLing her in a lunge cavesson til we both realised I had little control so it was swiftly back to the bit! But it is good fun isn't it.... you have to rise above your yard-mates' comments about "losing your cart" etc.... :p

I haven't had that one yet, although someone did say where's your whip  I don't need one, he's quite happy to walk one without one.

The only odd thing I did think last night was, if I am on the rode should my insurance cover him for pulling a cart, which he;s not, but he's ahead if you see what I mean. The little work we did on the road, I found the drivers where more inconsiderate than if he was ridden :( , except for one who just seemed too scared to pass me :p

No I haven't, but I am on holiday this week, so I will try and get organised and take my camera.

Paul lungeing him over the ditches in Rogers field must be a classic.

Off for a hack today, Poohsmate has returned our saddle, which hopefully will now fit him better and we are off for a 1 1/2 walk and trot with Dotty to bed it in.

Great to hear your long reining story. You are very brave doing it out in the open - I've only long reined in an enclosed arena. :)
