What does the Envelope mean?

:confused: ok i was wondering wat that envelope on the side of the forum box means.(the purple one)Sometimes they are open and sometimes they are closed.:confused: I just dont understand:( :confused: :( :confused: :( :confused:

This is what I understand it to mean:

If the envelope is open (and brown/beige) - there are new posts since the last time you looked. The thread title is bold type. If the envelope is closed there are no new posts since the last time you looked, and the thread title font is not in bold. If there is a padlock symbol on the envelope then it is closed, and you can't post any new messages on it.

I think that's right - now just got to wait for someone to correct me!
