Hi all,

I have been a loong time lurker and occasional poster, but I must admit that recently I haven't been on as often as in the past, and partly this because I really, really dislike seeing all of the advertisement in peoples signatures. Is this a forum or the Trading Post? It just clutters up the screen and makes no sense for those of us Down Under.

Just my 2 cents.

And before I get nuked, heres some pics of my new mare

I feel most of the time I hardly even notice what people have in their signatures. I don't see the difference between having a small advert compared to say a quote. I think it is a good way to find things to buy and a good way to sell too as you often get quick responses.

P.S. Your mare is gorgeous.

It does'nt really bother me what people have in their signatures,if someone is selling something horsey than it makes sense to note it in your signature as NR is a horse website.
And your new mare is very pretty:)

I hardly dare post here because I've got an ad...

But I'm curious as to what's so annoying about them. Is it when they're brightly coloured (like mine :o )? I would make it black if it was bothering people.

I don't like when people use enormous text in their sigs because that does take up screen space, but other than that, I quite like to see the ads. Not that I've ever bought anything from one...

Very nice mare, by the way.

ha, I have an ad, I recently put it as I normally don't sell stuff, or like to see ads on here. But realized it doesn't bother me to see ads anymore, and someone might be looking for something I have.

What don't you like about them???! It makes sense on a horsey website to advertise horsey items for sale and as long as it isn't too overpowering looking I don't see a problem! Well, I would say that wouldn't I??????! (being as I have one in my signature!!!) - anyway, not as annoying as text speak me thinks..........

Love your new mare:)
Can't say ads bother me, do like the quotes better tho, very clever some of them.Think as long as someone who has an ad is a geniune poster, its not a problem, would be annoyed if someone joined the forum just to promote their business tho.

I concur that a horsey website is just the place to advertise, and there are sections to do so, but a forum should be for the exchange of opinions and ideas and to assist those who need some advice, a shoulder to cry on and to celebrate the amazing experiences we have with horses.

I guess I think it just cheapens it a bit.

Not bothered by WHAT the sig contains (unless offensive of course!) just as long as it is normal size text, not too garishly coloured and 3/4 lines or less.
I'd rather a one line ad, than a three line quote....

Ads in signatures don't bother me either. Not that I'm likely to purchase something from them, I'm in the US and the shipping costs would be horrendous

Life is really too short to be bothered by what someone else has in their signature ;)

Can't say it bothers me that much either.

If I ever do it I don't go into detail just say'....for sale...pm for details' 'wanted' like I have below.

I like the signatures the way they are. It's useful to see if somebody has something you need, or for you to just put brief deatils of something you have for sale. Saves churning through For Sale and Wanted columns. Things have often caught my eye advertised in signatures and I've thought "That's a great idea!"

I find that I do read them just incase there is something there that I need. I have to admit that I find it irratating when occasionally people have advert that are huge and brightly coloured as it takes up lots of space (visually). But that aside I see no problem! :)

Yes, I like the ads too ... I always check them out just in case someone nearby is offering my ideal horse for sale or loan. You never know ...

Your mare is beautiful, MissFlss - lovely neck and head.
Is she part Arab?

They have never bothered me either.Certainly don't remind me of a trading post .Wouldn't be good if someone were selling a motorbike but horsey stuff seems appropriate on a horsey site.
Love the pics of your Hoss:) She's gorgeous!!!!
