I am just putting my pony budget together and it is ages since I had to put together a worming programme. How much roughly does it cost per month, per pony?

Thanks.

Wormer costs roughly £10- depends on type, and some routine wormers last longer than others- if you budget around £10 a month per horse/ pony that will certainly cover it

Hope that helps

I would say it would be slightly less than that. I am using eraquell this year which is about £8 and lasts 10 weeks so that is less than £4 a month.

I pay as little as $3USD for some wormers, $9USD for the Zimectrin Gold (the ivermectin with added ingredient to kill tape worm). I do it every 2 months and I am rotating products. No idea how US dollars convert though. :D

I worm count which is about £9 a time, then if they need worming they get Equest normally £11 and if their count was very high a recount to make sure it worked (which is slightly cheeper :D) That seems like an expensive way to do it, but when you can get them down to only needing tape worming (worm counts can but won't always pick up on these) at £8 twice a year (I use equitape) plus £9, 4 times a year (for the count, which if you use them regularly you seem to get a discount off of) its not so bad and at least they aren't getting all those chemicals pumped in unneciserialy (sp?) and this will also help, in the grand scheme of things to reduce resistance to the available drugs :)

i use the same system as Jessey. Works well for my horses and means that i'm not giving them chemicals unnecessarily :)

Thanks, had forgotten about - had details on it when I last had a pony. Will get her tested as soon as she arrives. She has been kept on very clean and well-managed pasture with her half-sister and one other horse - all on worming programme, so she probably will test low.

If you get a good worm count programme established then it will cost you £29 for a 4count pack, which lasts more than a year, plus one Equest and one Equitape.

In total: 3x £7.25 for worm counts, plus about £10 for Equest and £8 for Equitape =£39.75 per year for worming costs.

(Initially it may well cost more until your worming is in control but at least you will find out the problems and be able to deal with them)

We have a double dose tube twice a year which is £15 I think and a single in between those at about £9
