My 14.3hh mare has hair loss in patches on her neck, face and legs. It feels like a scab under the skin and if you touch it the hair usually just comes away leaving a patch of hair missing 1cm to 2cm in every direction. Sometimes there is a little bit of blood when the hair comes away other times a bit of yellow stuff.
Shes in isolation from my other mare and under surveilance. Ive washed her and all her rugs and grooming gear in ... (sorry forgotten the name of the stuff and its out in the garage). But anyway she still has hair coming away. From reading all over the net and the fact there was a horse the other side of the yard i used to be at had ringworm 3months ago i suspect its ringworm? What do you all think? And has anyone any advice for treatment or had similar problems.

With each patch ive been washing it with hibi and then putting calendula cream on it.

Sounds highly likely to me. My first horse had ring worm. Get your vet out today so you can start the bathing process and stop it spreading any further. If it isn't ringworm your vet can advise the best course of treatment.

Treatment is very easy - Fulcin powders or similar in the feed. Be careful you can get it too!

It could be ring worm, but I didn't think that normally was broken skin or and pussy stuff. I would also consider rain scald/rot, with all this damp warm weather we have been having it could well be that.
Ring worm is normally almost perfectly round patches which are angry and inflamed, often slightly raised from the rest of the skin, can be treated with Caneston (from the chemist), don't touch it bare handed and be very aware of cross contamination - from horse to hand to brushes/yard tools to other persons hands to other horse etc, wash hands everytime you touch him.
