Taffy....
Thank you for the hint for jumping. I'll be sure to try it this afternoon!! Would you happen to know how many steps/metres between trotting poles leading up to a jump. Trot and canter strides are measured differently, I think. That would be fantastic if you could tell me.

Thanx again

Eden :D

Im sorry i dont know but i know that u shouldnt put two poles in front of the jump as the horse may jump the poles and the jump

The last pole (placing pole sort of) needs to be the distance away of the height of the jump (ie if the jump is 4' the last pole needs to be 4' away). The other poles need to be 2-4' apart for trotting poles and 3-6' apart for canter poles (depending on the size of the horse/pony).

I think this is right but if I am wrong someone please correct me.

I guaged the distances I needed by measuring the stride left in the sand school at working trot and canter and set the poles this distance.

when i am happy or hyper, and jumping i imagine myself to be as light as a feather and that i am jumping really high, i think my horse senses this as she always puts in fantastic jumps when i do/am like this!!!

If you're jumping, ALWAYS put a groundpole at the base of the jump. That way, the horse can judge the height of the jump himself. If you want to put a pole before the jump to guide you, put it about 6'-7' feet away from the base of your fence.

With bounces, unless your horse is athletic and has been jumping for a long time, only do 2 crosspoles at a time, then a stride away from the last fence (about 18 feet), put another fence. That will make it a gymnastic of some sort.

I've been jumping for 4 years, and school over 1.2m fences. I have a lot of experience, so fire away any questions you may have about jumping...

urm, i nearly always use ground poles, but my horse is experienced at jumping!! and at shows they don't always have ground poles, so surely you must practise without them!!?? as well!!
