Hi,

I have just got my friends horse what thay have lent me for a while to re school him for showjumping.
At the moment he is in a harf moon Pelham with roundings, with a flash nosband and standing martingale. He is a big horse standing at 17HH.

I am thinking of outher bits to try him in + tack!
He is VERY strong wile in the ring, he is jumping in B.S.J.A classes from 1mr - 1.15 +.

any idears of bits and tack that i could posabley try?

:p

I don't know about bits but I would certainly take the standing martingale off for jumping. I would personally take off the flash, put two reins on the pelham and swap the standing for a running martingale and see how he goes in that. I should think that loads of ground work will be the key to this problem, it sounds as though he can jump alright, so you just need to work on the control inbetween fences aspect. Good luck.

I agree with Sharon. They've got him strapped down good and proper, haven't they! If I were him I'd fight all the way in that rigmarole. If you use roundings on a Pelham you can't get the proper effect from either the curb or the snaffle rein - you have no choice, no discretion. If you do switch to a running martingale don't forget that it should be on the snaffle rein (my edition of the Pony Club Manual of Horsemanship - ? - pictured it on the curb rein).
