Well my mare seems to be settling down now after about 2 and a half weeks with me. I have managed to have some sane rides in the school and walked her out down the lane without any troubles.
However, she still seems to me a bit on edge, i think she needs some more time but does anyone know of any good supplements that i can add to her feed to help her cope with any stress in future (eg on new rides) or just when she is left alone (hates it)
At the moment she only gets a little feeed about 1/4 scoop of mix so it would need to be something i could add without having to feed her more as she doesnt need anymore feed!
Thanks!!!!
Chloe

Mag Calm from Global Herbs is very good. It just chills them out a bit without affecting their performance.

It might be good until she settles in & you get used to each other :)

Consider dropping the cereals and feed a forage based diet with as little molasses in as possible. Cereals can 'hype' some horses up, even the so-called 'cool mixes'. Dropping hard feed from her diet had a huge effect on Saffy.

As a calmer cal-mag (very cheap) or mag-ox is excellent. They allow the horse to have a personality but still take the edge off their behaviour.

I would agree, if she is fractious cut out the mix and just give a fibre feed instead, Dengie do a good range.
You could also give her Rescue Remedy, its a flower extract and help you deal with and kind of stress. You can buy it in boots and use it for yourself and your horse to ensure you are both confident for those new rides :D
