Hi, I have a 30 yo pony and a 20yo horse, due to recent surgery I cannot ride the horse and the pony has been unridden too, both have previously been very lightly hacked out. Both seem happy grazing and enjoying a rest but I am wondering if I should be doing any light work with them, lungeing them or somesuch. This would be to keep them in shape and give them an interest. What do others think? Or should I just let them be?
Both are well, pony has a history of laminitis but none this year, horse is becoming a bit barrel shaped, thanks in advance.:)

i have an elderly mare who may well have to be retired soon. i intend to do inhand classes with her at shows as she really loves it and will be a change of scenery. she tends to get very bored not being ridden. i will probably also lead her out on hacks in a bridle.
i think its important if your horse is the kind that needs to be kept active that they at least do something. some are happy to retire to the field. you will know your own horse. i know mine is one that needs to keep her mind active!!
