My horse had his annual jag a few days ago. How long should they be rested before riding again and does it affect their performance? I felt thet my boy was under the weather today when I rode him out.

Our vet generally says just give them a day off - if they're looking a bit under the weather. I usually ride the next day. I've never known either of ours to be affected - but I like to be sure. Its the strangles jab that can sometimes make our two look a bit off colour.

One day off is usually ok, For competition you need to have a seven day break after injections. Just curious but our horses need their flu tet jabs every 6 months due to FEI regulations, is it the same in britain???

usually just one day off then a day or two of light work ensuring they dont get really sweated up

again 1 day off then slow work not sweating them up for another couple of days. my girls are sometimes a bit under the weather a day after but if yours lasts any longer than that might be an idea to call the vet and ask.
and yes it it 6 months for FEI regs here too but as i dont compete at that level i have mine done yearly

my horse still not 100% :( he seems fine health wise and I don't know if there is actually anyhting wrong but he just doesn't feel as lively as usual. He is a bit breathless and he isn't 'going up a gear' as he normally does if I ask him to canter. Not sure what to do.
When I thought about it he may have been like this before his jag but it isn't obvious.

with flu jabs it is actually a small amount of the virus that they are injecting so the horse can build an immunity to it and its not uncommon for horses, and humans too if they have the jab to display flu like symptoms and this may be why your horse is feeling a bit blue, but if you're worried then give your vet a quick ring and see what they say :)
