Okay, sorry for the lame title. I watched the Wizard of Oz last night :D

Anyway, ever since I moved my morgan horse from another yard to this one, she's been pretty healthy. She's lost weight (she was a chubby girl now she's quite fit) and her coat looks great. Her hooves are in a good condition too, now that she is barefoot. But the flies have gotten May very very badly this year. She had had lots of small bumps, from her neck to her flanks, and on her legs and face. Some of the bumps are circular and bald. May has also been sneezing a lot with thick mucus, which makes me think she has ringworm, but I am not entirely sure. I'm still looking into symptoms of horses with ringworms on the internet and in books.

I've started to play the Friendly Game with a flyspray bottle filled with water and a tiny bit of the flyspray, and I've moved on from that to regular flyspray (May has a little bit of an issue with water and other liquids.) I've also put cream on the bumps that were bleeding/scabs. It's only been three days but she is looking a LOT better. But, while grooming her mane, I've found tiny little...yellowish things that I can only describe as eggs in her mane. They stick to her mane like glue and the only way I can think of getting them out is brushing them out or shaving her mane off  Her bridlepath was a bit untidy, so I trimmed it up a bit. Most of the eggs there came out, but her mane still has some in there.

Anyway...what are some symptoms of a horse with ringworm? And if May doesn't have ringworm, could the bumps just be from flies or possibly an allergic reaction? And what are the 'eggs' in her mane and how can I get them out?

Thanks and apologies for the long post :)

just wondering if the eggs are bot eggs - very small and yellow. if they are and you worm your horse properly and remove as many as you can it should be fine. they are layed by bot flies which are around alot at this time of year.
you can get something called a bot knife that will get them off. they are nothing to worry about - most horses get them at some point!!

as for the bald patches, may be an allergic reaction to fly bites, or as you say ringworm - probably best to get your vet to check if your not sure as ringworm can be very contagious

You can remove bot eggs by pulling the hair between your finger and thumb nail or alternatively you can buy a something that looks a bit like a knife which removes them. You can get lumps and bumps from fly bites or an allergic reaction but as you have what sounds like bot eggs I would assume flies.

Regarding ringworm the horses i've known have been well in themselves so maybe she is a bit rundown and has picked up some sort of a cold? You may be as well to get the vet out to check her over?

my boy had ringworm this time last year, didnt have any symptons, just scabby skin!! took 5 weeks for it clear up.
I'm sure sneezing along with thick mucus is not a sign of Ringworm, maybe a cold or a bit of an allergy to something perhaps.
heres a couple of pix of Bens ringworm

My filly had a snotty nose that was similar to what you have described and we was told it was from her travelling. We had the vet out t check her just incase and its agood job we did because it was viral infection!! She had to have a weeks of antibiotics and she is fine now so its worth getting the vet to check it out.
