O.K I have 6 horses,
1 with definate sweet-itch,
2 unaffected and still have nice mane and tails,
3 rubbing on anything and everything, so much so that their manes and tails resemble bog brushes.

Now I have seen enough of S/I to know it isn't this, I have checked for lice and can see no tell tale signs, but am going to treat them all with louse powder anyway.

Anybody else's horse have this infuriating itching ???

Our Shetland is always itching, on everything (me, the door, the walls, children, parents, etc.!!) No idea what may be causing it though, again it's not sweet itch, and don't think it's lice either. We have one horse with sweet itch, who he's not turned out with so he isn't copying Lu's behaviour, but the rest are all fine.

not sure if star actually had sweet itch or not this year but he's generally quite an "itchy" horse anyway as soon as you take his rugs off he's itching away and desperate to roll, anyway I used killitch on his tail because he was really going for it this year but there was no insect bites or marks of any kind on his tail but it cleared it up straight away

Personally i would de-lice them all and give the itchy ones a bath with tea tree shampoo ,

You dont say how long its been going on for but it could be their coats changing, I know my two are getting there winter coats and they are a little bit more itching than usual.:)

My horse has been rubbing his tail a lot, i have used benzanene benzonate(spelling really bad) have n't got the bottle with me, should get in your local tack shop or chemist (used for treating lice for humans), my horse has stopped itching, may have just been soothing rather than him having lice. Used to use it on my pony who had sweet itch, worked really well if you put it on prior to your horse showing the signs.
