Hi Jeni,
I will attempt to explain how I do my quick release knot. Its a bit difficult, probably why no one else has answered your question!
First I always tie a horse onto a piece of string. Never tie straight onto a tie ring or gate etc. If horse pulls back it can break the string, but it could otherwise do itself a lot of damage:eek: .

1. Make a loop about one-third of the way down the leadrope
2. Pass the loop through the string
3. Make another loop just after the first (end of rope end), then pass it through the first loop
4. Pull clip end of rope to tighten knot

If you just leave it like this and pull the end, the whole thing should pull undone. This is good in the case of an emergency i.e. horse suddenly panics. But, the problem is, the horse can also pull the end and undo himself:rolleyes: .
So, what I do is then pass the end of the rope through the last loop. That way the horse can't undo himself, and all you have to do is pull the end back through the last loop, and then pull the end;) .

Everybody seems to tie differently, but this is my way, and I've been tying horses for 30 years, and touch wood, havn't had an accident yet:D

Hope you understand this
Sheryl x

Scroll down this link (http://www.newc.co.uk/docs/mktguidelines2003.pdf) to page 10. It has a 3-step picture guide to tying a quick release knot, and doesn't miss any steps out. This is how I tie mine :)
