In my last lesson I did my first ever canter, and it rocked!!! It's wierd, because I've always hated sitting trot, and always done rising trot, but my instructor said that when your trying to get to canter, it helps if your sitting deeply and low. So I tried sitting trot, and it just worked. I just went with the rythm of the horse, and into a canter. My instructor was really pleased, and I luffed it!
Any tips about cantering for my next try?

I just can't wait to do it again though! In my lessons we're concentrating on paces and speed at the mo', so chances are I'll get to try cantering again next time. Whoo!

Well done!! much better than my first canter, the horse would go so my instructer used a lunge whip and the horse bucked so I went flying over her head. Then it got worse from there and I lost all confidence and fell off everytime I cantered:rolleyes: Just about relaxing and tellig yourself you can do it and the horse will feel your confidence!!

Well done!! no tips here.. as i've only just managed this myself today! :p
I'm over the moon also.
I found the transition into canter more difficult than you seem to have, but that was partly my fault as was a bit timid at first! lol we got there though and it's much much easier than sitting trot! I've been struggling with that one ofr a while... no I can see i have a lot of cantering to be done! lol
Well done!

Wow, thankyou people! ^^ I My instructor just told me to go for it, and I did.:) I'm sure all your first times at cantering can't have been bad though, you're just being modest.:p But it's just an exhilerating feeling when you fell the horse start to canter, 'cos you've never felt it before and it's completely different from a trot, if you know what I mean?

I love cantering, especially on my horse Red because he sort of jumps into canter with his front legs, it's really cute :D

Aww, how cute!:o
And Trooper, when you get to cantering, go for it! It's so true that horses can feel your confidence - and it just rocks when your actually cantering!

Good luck tomorrow Natasha! I know i'll be a little nervous again come saturday. :) I guess that's natural for a while.
I must say I agree.. go for it!
I really had to remind myself i WANTED it.. and give the aids firmly with a verbal instruction before Bonnie went into canter - she was fast trotting which was causing me to think twice.. but once I did this she went in lovely and it was great. :) She probably felt my unease initially. :p

Thankyou! I'm a little nervous too about doing it again, but mostly excited.
I want to try cantering for longer next time, 'cos my previous one went back to trot quicker than I'd have liked. And it's wierd how your feelings come across to horses so easilly! It's strange how they can just tell if you're really going for something or if you're holding back. But that might be if your tenser... I dunno. :D

Hey, quick question, how long have you been trotting before cantering?
I've been trotting (seems like forever) for 3 month already (once a week), i am tired of it, i need variety.

Hi Hot-to-trot, have you asked you RI about this and if so what was their reply?
