View Full Version : You know when you've cracked it with your OH ridingwise when...

...he gives you chapter and verse on the aids for canter and follows up with a debate on the relative merits of the half halt in canter transitions. ;)

AND

today he asks if you'll video the end of the WEG games on BBC2 as it clashes with his weekly riding lesson.

All this from the man who a year ago was completely uninterested in horses or riding.

I THINK I'M GETTING THERE:D

well done both of you! I don't have an OH (quite happy too) but my last one I couldn't turn at all. He just wasn't in the slightest bit interested...but then I hate footy so he'd do that while I played horse :) xxx

Way to go, Caz! (as they say acrorst the Pond).:D

Yes, just got to keep him a bit in check now- just a little half-halt every now and then, heh heh!

It's really nice, tho', to be able to share the enthusiasm, isn't it?

My OH realised quite quickly he was going to have to join in by getting some lessons, or be submerged in a deluge of horsey garble.
Now he's got the bug (and the full chaps: wahey!), and only wishes he had the time to do more.
We're planning a riding hol in the Brecon Beacons (sans HQ!) which is exciting:)

Here's to OHs and their riding!;)

lol well done you!! mission accomplished!! ;)

I've been 'working' on DH for a year, and we now have a pony, who he'll happily muck out, groom, feed, turn out, fetch in... etc etc.. for our daughter... still have work to do on MY horse.. He still just laughs and reminds me of how much we spend on peanuts... but all in good time!
He watched me canter for the first time yesterday without reminding me of the 'risks' :p so we're getting there! I did ask if he fancied riding lessons but that's still a no..

It can be a slippery slope though........
My OH has been riding for a year, he now has a horse on part loan and embarrasingly enough he now rides better than me

Or when your second horse (pony in my case) suddenly seems to belong to someone else! Today I was grumpily asked to put the stirrup leathers back on the right holes next time I borrow his pony!!!! Good thing I had two, eh? :D

Thanks for responses everyone.:D

Novicenic, the trip away was just fab thanks.:D Got back last night. Totally OT, but I can recommend Sardinia to anyone. It's a gorgeous place. Also spotted some horses being ridden through the sea, so must investigate if we go again, which, I must admit, is VERY likely. :D :D :D

Just had a lovely ride out on Sennie before the rain..just in case he'd forgotten me. He hadn't I'm pleased to say.:)

Hehe, know just what you mean - OH is a much better rider than me, he's always being complimented on his "good position" by various teachers (sighs.....) never mind:rolleyes: :D We talk horses all the time, just hope we don't end up whinneying to one another! :p

How did you persuade him?
OH thinks horses are "alright," will drive me to lessons and would probably go trekking if it is nice weather. I suppose it's a start.:)
