I am moving Captain on Saturday and I have to admit I am very nervous. One of the main things that is playing on my mind is I hope I am making the right decision for him. I want so much more and I am hoping that the ideas of the new YO are going to actually happen. Unfortunately I have to move him initially to grass livery for a month. Then I will be up at the main yard. At the moment everything is just ideas and I cant see anything actually happening and being in place. It is a whole new start for the YO as she has taken back the yard and will need to start from fresh. I can imagine it is going to be quiet for a while. I cant help but think I may be doing the wrong thing. Did anyone else feel like this???:(

yes, both times I moved Garbo I was very worried in the week leading up to it and the week after.... after one month at the first place I knew I had to move again - then the place I am at now I was settled at after just one week.... :)

Don't worry - if it's not right - you can change it again....

Oh good luck NN. The grass is always greener as they say and sometimes it really is.

So why is it that you are moving - what are the pros and cons of current and new yard.

Best of luck for you both.:)

Nic,

Unfortunatly you will only know this after the move, sometimes it's the right decision and sometimes it's not.

I'm sure you'll be fine though.

Whenever we moved our horses I always felt that it was less traumatic for them than me, and the reason I realised was for them it was a change of grass and surroundings/mates (all very interesting) but one thing stayed constant..........mum still did the dinner/grooming/riding, the feed bucket smelled the same, the security net was still there, what I am trying to say is it isn't the same as being sold on, where even the headcoller changes. If it is a quieter yard you may find you enjoy it more, I did. And a big advantage of being first on a new yard was I got the best stables/turnout and it was my choice. Stayed for 4 years !!!!!!!!!

Yes, I fully understand your apprehension Nic. I didn't have the dilemma of a different turnout routine like you do but it was a strange experience for us all.

I didn't sleep the night before we moved Megan recently. I kept thinking, 'she's settled, happy, knows the herd etc... ' The yard isn't as good as the one we were at, just nearer and the people are mainly from one family and their friends.

In reality we haven't looked back. The people are lovely and normal, they enjoy their horses every day and there are no aires and graces about 'what you do' with yours  Know what I mean ;)

Give it 3 weeks and I'm sure you'll have an entirely different outlook :D

OMG I just wish Saturday was here already. Not sleeping and my brain is spinning round in circles. People are asking me why I am leaving and am spinning around with why I am leaving. Clipped Captains legs today in preparation of going onto grass livery. Why cant you get electric sockets in the midlle of a ten acre field. :p I havent even started to move any of my stuff from the current yard yet. I seem to have my whole horse life up there. Spening money to make sure I have everything I need. Including a storage box which I need to invest in. I need more rugs. No-one will be on the yard on Saturday morning to say goodbye. I dont like goodbyes but I wanted to hug friend and say I would still be popping round for a cup of tea. :(

Aww bless :)

Was EXACTLY the same - remember? http://www.newrider.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=87203

I must have missed your reasons for moving him, go back and evaluate that, you'll find you've made the right decision hun :D

Do take pictures when you get there and update us all; we'll be thinking of you in the morning.

Best of British :p
