Well, it's actually been 4 months since we bought our two sweeties...Savannah and Fancy (2 QH Paints), 9 and 4 yo respectively....

Since then, everyone from my daughter....myself and the horses have made great accomplishments! I remember the first few eeks when we have not made any significant connections with them, and I was lamost in tears that I felt so overwhelmed with the whole horse 'ownership' thing....
Since then, Fancy has been taking part in my daughter's English lessons, with no issues! Even cantered on the right lead PREFECTLY! Plus tried several 2' jumps! This little (or not so little anymore...seems to be getting taller! ) mare has proven to be a perfect match for my 11 yo daughter... and trust no other rider on her except her... a friend of hers actually tried to ride her... and naughty girl bucked her off! Which she never dares to do with my daughter...she is always a perfect little lady with her!
My horse Savannah, is content with my trail rides..which I have recently taken the plunge to do....shes been GREAT! Very quiety...even when I felt my heart stop when a band of neighborhood dogs came running up to us one day along the streets... My sweeties stayed composed and quiet.. looked at the hdogs...and moved on!

I have to say, my daughter and I also progressed in many aspects... For me, I've actually learned to pick up Savannah's hind feet with NO issues! I have learned, to trust her, and she has really taken on trusting me as well :)
As for my daughter.... she can now catch her horse with more confidence that the horse feels.... she no longer tries to intimidate my daughter by pinning her ears back in a threat, as then she knew my daughter was petrified of this ! Both have taken in a HUGE portions of our hearts, and I am realizing what great fun it is to have them in our lives, and what joy my daughter and I both share with them.

Now if we can ONLY get OH to come and ride... can you beleive he HAS NOT even attempted? But I hate to have to pry and MAKE him come... I hope sooner or later he will want to.

Thats all for now... hopefully we'll post new pics soon! :p

Oh well done you two!

I am so delighted to read this as you have had such and emotional roller coaster.

Everyone said to give it time and look, 4 months, and things are so much better.

I wouldn't worry about OH for a while. You and your daughter and the two girls still have a long way to go - concentrate on you 4 and then get him involved.;)

Can't wait to see more photos of your stunning girls.

I wish I could go back in time and show you this thread when you first got them! I'm so pleased that everything is going well and I can't believe how confident you've become :D
My horse can sometimes be a naughty boy on the ground (from excitement, not malice) and the times when I get nervous are the times when I'm not sure what to do about it. Any time when I know exactly how to handle the situation, I'm fine and simply deal with it. I reckon a lot of nerves come down to not being sure what to do if something particular happened. Then we start doing the whole "What if..?" thing, instead of thinking, "Big deal, I'll cope!"
For both of us, the I guess the answer is exposure to as many different situations as possible - the more we learn how to handle different things (packs of horse-eating dogs etc :D ) the more relaxed and confident we'll be...
*Touch wood* :D
Anyway once again I'm really pleased for you and your daughter, and the horses sound like real treasures :)

Oh congratulations il28!!
I was really feeling for- and with- you when I read your early posts.
Lovely to read how you are feeling the joy of horseyness. They truly do enrich our lives, don't they?

Your daughter is doing so well with Fancy; you must be very proud:D
And as for you tackling the 'back feet issue', I know what an achievement THAT is;)

And trail riding, too. Bet you didn't think you'd ever be telling us all about that.

Pics, please? Heh heh!

Thanks everyone!
I was excited to tell you all how much changes went on from my first posts, as EST mentioned.... I know how awfully uncertain I must have sounded then... I still am, but I think I have gone a loooong way from that petrified lady 'trying' to get things together!

And yes, how very proud I am of Fancy and my daughter! Indeed! :p I watch her lessons and am just clearly amazed of the both their determination...both learning, both so young.... this is ONE example, that though Fancy is young, I still do find her quite suitable a mount for my daughter regardless of age( Many people at the barn commend my choice for a QH, they say they are the best choice for children??? Hmmmm....)... Fancy takes good care of her... and that little girl is just so in love!;)

Hopefully will post new pics sooon.. sorry I am horrible at that!
Can u just imagine??? ME hacking out now??? on streets? WITH CARS, and all those scary things???? Well.... I still have some ways to go to 'relax' more....but least I go out and try every now and again:D ....

Will keep you posted!;)

Ha-Ha! I know! I was a wreck wasn't I?
But guess what... I LOVE bathing them now! They are so well behaved, and I think through the months, they have really taken on that we are their new owners..... the former owner came by one day as he is also at the same barn... Our girls did not even show any signs of care! Poor man...but the two mares, paid no mind to his hellos.... in the past they would whinny and act up at the first sight of the man!
Couldn't help but think (WOOOOHOOOO!)...:p

I am so pleased with these 2 mares! Everyone complements on how calm they are and what great choice of first(ish) horses I made for us... Fancy is a perfect fit for my daughter... in fact she does not like anyone else but her! And Savannah is a doll.... knowing what a Nervous Nelliw a rider I am.. she stays calm and careful... and I just LOVE THEM TO BITS!!!!

Cant imagine how much more in another few months we'll get! Right now hacking out is OUR goal.... I hope in a few months I can say that we went for a 30 minute ride.. instead of our little 10 minute ones for the moment.... but THATS more a ME thing than it is the horses.....

Speaking of which... I am on my way out to see them now.... going to round pen them today, as I have little time to spend today with other home chores to deal with.... I am excited everytime we head to the barn... as soon as Savnnah sees me.. off goes her Whinny!:p WHAT A FEELING!

It sounds absolutely great what you are doing and I relate to all of it with a new horse and a daughter about the same age.
