Hi,
Wondered if anyone has any ideas. My horse is 19 years old chestnut thoroughbred mare. She is still going strong and is currently really fit, I recently went to a show and she was fantastic, really forward going.
However since then she seems to have become really lathargic and sluggish doesn't really want to do anything. I have since been to another show but no matter how hard I tryed she wasn't forward going. She was stil doing as i said and was well behaved and everything but seems like she cant really be bothered. I have tryed feeding her, like trying to hype her up but nothing yet seems to work. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Hazel

Maybe she wants a break? Im no expert but for her to go from energetic to well...not (lol) there may be a medical problem or she just wants a rest. I would give her a week or so off and then try again and if she is still the same phone the vet. Has she had any new tack on that might be upsetting her? Or maybe she is a bit sore in her back, hips, mouth ect. as she is old

Hello Hazel,
Did you read the post about flu and tetanus jags? your story sounds just like mine. My horse is perfectly fine except he seems to have lost his oomph! I am giving him another few days and then will call out the vet to see if there is actually anyhting wrong. I thought about giving him Red Cell as a small booster, has anyone used this stuff?

have you considered getting a physio to take a look. They will be able to help a great deal if there is a muscular problem of some sort. Its possible your horse is feeling a little sore. What we give our horses who are feeling a little sluggish once we know there is no medical reason is blood salts. They work wonders.

kossolian make a product called Blood Salts, an electrolyte product I think. To give the immune system a boost there are a few products out there, I've used Global herbs' Echinacea or Naff's Pink Powder.
