Some of you may already do this but..............

My spray gun for my homemade mane and tail spray broke on tuesday so I decided to spray Cooper's mane with the Skin So Soft.

It was fabulous. It contains oil so the shine was beautiful, he smelled like a big jessy of course but it fairly kept the flies away.

I need too much to be effective on his tail but I sprayed it around the fuzzy bits at the top of the Dock to smooth it down and to keep the flies away from his bum.

Just thought I would share.

:D Hi Dee

I use SSS on Megan, all over, it's always in my tack box!

We use it when we go to the Highlands to keep the midges off and as Nafoff and the other commercial sprays didn't make the flies Naf Off I used it on her. It does a good job, she smells much nicer than usual  AND it conditions her coat, mane and tail. Luverly stuff :)

Oh midgies - I remember them well - awful little critters! I am sure I have eaten many of the blighters in my time.

So you are another SSS convert! You must get through a lot with Madams beautiful thick mane!

Sfunny how 'they' say that you shouldn't wear scent when you are with horses as it puts them off but by the time I plaster Coops in SSS and his suncream he smells better than I do!

LOL LOL :D You're right there, I always think I arrive at the yard and she smell awful, I smell nice... I leave and she smells like a tart and I smell of horse poo :p

Sorry, not trying to turn this into a PM'ing session :o

Which fragrance do you use?? Dont they say the green one is best?? Let me know if there is any itchiness please as I wouldnt mind trying it on Captain but he can be a bit itchy with some sprays. Thanks

Nic, I used both and can't discern any difference - apart from fragrance - the flies seem to hate it!

No itchy bits either for Megs.

One of the reasons it works so well as a fly repellent is that it contains *whispers - citronella * ... y'know, that stuff that's not allowed to be in fly repellents any more ;)

causes a few odd moments though, like when theres a big box from avon in the hall and your other half says "is that yours" and I say "no thats the horses avon order" :D -very intelligent horses in sussex!

tis an essential oil that is a good fly repellent when added to a mixture of water and vinegar

Yes, only mine's a skin oil spray and I couldn't see it on that site

Edited: Found it! :D http://avonshop.co.uk/avonshop/default.asp?line_id=69&department=fastfind&src_page=random_product_list.asp

or, reputedly the better one to use (I found no difference) the green one, I couldn't find it, only saw the blue one that W'jit's probably got. I've got the green one in Meg's tack box and the pink one in the car :D

Snap! With Imp.

I spray it on neat.

The oil makes his coat shine.

Fortunately, he doesn't react to it but I have heard that some horses do.

He even lets me spray it around the sensitive skin near his sheath.

It isn't a miracle cure for the horse as I've noticed on a longish hack that the flies will begin to descend after a few hours. It is definately a lot better than that pink bottled (mention no names) stinky stuff that absolutely has no effect at all - on May anyway.

Very good for humans. OH gets bitten alive during the summer and has started to spray his exposed bits.

I'm a convert too! I use this one- http://avonshop.co.uk/avonshop/default.asp?department=shop
The smell is lovely, makes Tigger smell lovely. Everybody pokes fun at him smelling 'like a girl', but whos the one with no flies round them!!

I don't think I would use anything else anymore, plus it gives his coat a wonderful shine and its so soft!

That's it, I surrender! I've read all you lot going on and on about how wonderful this stuff is for months, so I've just ordered five bottles from Avon at a discount price of £2.50 each :) I hope it's as good as you all say it is, otherwise I'll be selling four bottles on e-bay :D :D :D

Do be careful, Avon SSS dry oil spray does not like the cold.don't leave it in your tackboxes during the winter because it goes all funny and you can't spray the stuff ...the lovely oil likes to be kept warm and snuggly.

Aha!

Thanks for the tip re the winter chill on the product.

Good luck with yours Emma.

Once again it isn't a miracle substance but it is good and quite cheap.
