Hey there,

It's Enya here (Imp's daughter) Mum's permanantley logged in and it wont let me log her out  Talk about addicted mum. :p

Anyhoo - Thought maybe you'd all like to hear some positive news about Megan! So here goes sorry it's so long ...

Earlier in the week, Mum and I arranged to go on a short hack with our yard owners daugher as Megan hasn't been ridden in a while since I have lost most of my confidence and have been too scared to ride :o

Today was the day we had arranged for this hack and we arrived at the yard around 6:00pm all ready .. and nervous. Megan was as good as gold being tacked up and soon I was sitting on her worrying about what "might" happen, mum told me not to worry and brought the lead rope "just in case"

We set off with more company than we originally thought, a fellow livery rode bareback on her horse, the yard owners daughter and her daughter both rode and another mother & daughter rode their horses who are staying temporarily.

We walked up along the slightly busy road but it was only 100 metres until we reached a quiet road to walk up. Megan was 4th back and decided that she really would like to be up front thank you very much and started power walking in front of the other horses. the yard owners daughter's young mare got a bit funny around Meg's and it was decided that she would stay behind us, so Megan was now just 3 horses back. This of course still wasn't good enough for "Princess Meggles" and she tried to cut in front of the tiny pony ahead - we managed to keep her back for a while.

Megan doesn't like to be left behind, and when we stopped to re-adjust the saddle (it slipped) she kept shifting forwards slightly, once we set off again she was nearly trotting to get back to the two horses in front.

when we got a little way along, the yard owners daughter asked our fellow livery if they could trot, they agreed and the livery owners daughter asked if that was ok with me. I said yes and we trotted for a while up to the end of the road. Megan was really happy and had her ears pricked forwards the whole time!

We turned around there and walked back down to where mum was standing (being on foot she decided to stop whilst we trotted up hill!). On the way down megan managed to over-take the little pony and was now second horse in line (This is probably a bad habit I need to get out of her) and was power walking once again to over-take our fellow livery, who said "If she wants to trot you could let her for a while? He (reffering to her horse) is good and we can keep Megan behind" And so I let Megan do as she wished and she trotted of her own free will (That's a first with her!) She got a little annoyed when the other horse didn't let her past, but soon I was trotting next to our fellow livery and we were chatting to each other. Megan was happy, I was happpy and mum ...well mum was still walking quite a way behind us!

This is the best I've felt about riding in a long time, Megan really enjoyed herself and I had a great time, the people we hacked out with are so much fun and I just want to go and do it all again! I'm feeling really positive about riding again! I just hope this feeling lasts this time! :D

Love Enya

Great news! Its so good to get your confidence back ,and it sounds as though you rode really well, wish I was as brave, to go in front of all those others...

And, you managed to hold her back while you did the saddle adjusting, so completely in control. Very well done.

Huge pats on the back to you - and to Megan - and Mum...

Sounds like you had fun Enya. Looking forward to your next post. Meg's will get out of the habit of wanting to be infront. My friends daughter's pony had the same problem. Once you learn to relax and just go with her she will settle down. Why dont you take a leaf out of Whantanejit's book and all take it in turns who leads or stays at the back?? Have fun..:)

I (Imp here) would just like to point out that 1) I am lame and 2) the short hack was uphill  I arrived back at the yard limping more than usual and very, very proud of my girlies :p

I know how nervous E was about riding Megs after she'd tried so hard to dump her in the past. Megan positively enjoyed the whole thing and was really happy on arrival back at the yard - when I eventually caught up with the horses

I never thought I had a forward going mare, you should have seen her! I'm so proud of them both, knowing Megan lacking confidence in new places and E's fear of Megan at her worst *gushes* :D :D :D

*ow, ow, ow... off to rest me aching bones :( *

That's brilliant, Imp, Enya and Megan - it's wonderful when things go right, isn't it.
Is it all thanks to the Kelly Marks RA?

Congratulations all round!:D It's so hard to re-gain confidence once it's been lost, but it sounds like you are well on your way Enya:D

As for you Imp, I'm sure all that walking didn't help with the lameness, but how lovely of you to put yourself through that for Enya and Megs, and even lovelier for you to be so proud of both your girls:D :D

Yeah!!!

Well done Enya and Smegan!!:)

What a great achievement. It is these slowly but surely steps of horse and rider improvement that make this hobby/sport/passion so rewarding and adictive:)

Sorry about your hip Lynne - how are you with bikes and how is Megan with them - was the walking out works we always progress to a bike to make life easier for the non rider.

Looking forward to hearing more tales!
