I just bought a new horse :) . She requires you to actually ask for flying changes instead of just doing them like my other horse. She likes to run before them nd after them, or she will trot, or she will just continue on cantering on the wrong lead :( . I have a show coming up and if I cannot get clean changes it will effect my mark. How do you ask your horses for their leads. My trainer has tried to explain but her way isn't working for me.

when you ask for canter you should use your inside leg on the girth so the horse leads with the inside leg..if you are diong flying changes ...say when doing a figure of eight..
As you come across the diagonal and just before x in the centre shift your weight and move the other leg on to the girth and the other behind and use your leg which is now to the inside of the school.make sure you collect the horse back as you do it so it gets its hind legs underneath itself so it can swap the front legs over.once you master this you can start practicing doing it in a straight line.
It is really hard to explain..sorry if ive just confused you

I figured it out. The only reason I could not get it was because my shoulders were to far forward
