What on earth do you do about it??? Tail looks unsightly.Already severely banged by previous owner. If you put on a bandage,by end of day, bandage is half way down tail, if not on floor trodden in muck. What about a neoprine tail guard?? Can you leave them on for longish periods??
Also why do they do it?? No sign of rubbing anywhere else.Is this a boredom thing?? Might things get better, when a routine is sorted out?? Any ideas??
Thanks.

Is he definitely rubbing it? If so it might just be irritating him whilst the new hair grows back, as they did trim it far too short.
You can leave your tail guard on him for most of the day if you like, as long as you take it off for at least half an hour in the morning and afternoon.
If you think he's bored (he shouldn't be as he has got "her" to talk to) give him his hay in a fine sized haynet (i'll send you one if you need one) or give him some swedes or turnips to play with.

Does he have worms? If a horse has worms he will rub his tail terribly. Also, do you use any conditioner on his tail, that could irritate it. Did you wash all of the shampoo out of his tail, because if not, when it dries it will itch like crazy. The Professional Choice tail guards are really nice if you want to try one.
