I know I used to feed them to my pony years ago (ahem!) but I seem to remember having to make sure they were boiled and softened first. He used to have them with bran mash, but I know that it is not so OK to give them this now, so I would wait and see what everyone else says!!

No probs! You should try beetroot!!! Only once have I done this and you can imagine the lurvely red lips etc!!

My friend feeds her horse a large selection of veg (from Tescos) I have told her to palm her daughter off with a green grocer, it would be so much cheaper!!!:D :D

beetroot!!
wat about blackberries when you are out haking!! My fried has got a grey and we made him a purple moustache with blackberries! He looked funny! I give my horse all sorts of veg and they dont seem to harm her! The only thing i no that is harmfull 2 horses is oranges and citrus fruits cos it makes them blind apparently :)

They are ok as long as they are boiled. Don't give them raw and especially if they are going green as they can contain toxins, I've been told. Check with ponyvet to see if this is true.

Dougal's fave is a turnip tied on a piece of baling twine dangling from a hook above the stable door. He has great fun trying to catch it. It's a good cheap toy in case they're ever stuck in due to bad weather!

I hate to say this but Dougal's absolute favourites are cheese butties and Jaffa Cakes!! Aren't I naughty?

PS he doesn't get them every day in his feed, just as a treat if we go on one of those all day hacks when it's sunny. For all of you in the Uk - can YOU rmember the last time it was sunny?

One of my school friends horses (all those years ago) loved cream eggs. She was called Tequila (or kee for short). Don't you think that's a lovely name?

Tessa used to like cheese and onion toasties and Tango pop. lol.
I was not responsible for finding this out for the first time however dare to stand outside her stable with a toastie and you could lose an ear when she was going for your toastie. She had a remarkable likeness to Jaws in this situation. :-)
