The Yard:- Episode 247, 5 mins worth

Well, this horsey soap has been running for months already, so we'd better try and catch up with the story lines. Here goes...

Well, tonight's episode opens with a scene of glorious sunshine flooding the yard on a summer's morning. The farrier's van is parked up and there's PHIL himself, getting ready to shoe a fine looking TB. The girl standing by the horse's head doesn't look happy. It's AMELIA, and she's a bit of an equibabe. Phil's not bad either, folks!
"So, why didn't you turn up at the wine bar last night, Phil? I was SO embarassed, all my friends wondering why I was all dressed up and by myself!"
Phil replies that he was very tired as he'd been busy. "Just found myself asleep, hun, you know the way it is..."
Oops, naughty naughty Phil. He's been horsing around and he's gonna have to come clean. Amelia is NOT the kind of girl to take it lightly..

Sounds of sobbing from a stable- no, not a horse without a haynet, but VERA, trying to muck-out but failing as she's sooooo distraught. She kneels in the dirty straw and gives in to her grief: "What am I going to do? All the money's gone, I just can't keep it all together any more! It's the horses- or the HOUSE!!" More wailing.
"Whatever's the matter, can I help?" A friendly face appears in the doorway- it's JED, the back man. Vera looks up at him through her tears, and unwittingly wipes a bit of poo across her face with her gloved hand....

Meanwhile, back at the farmhouse, CARRIE, the YO, looking tense, opens an official-looking letter ....

Opening scene of this mornings episode..........

Carrie, tentatively slices open the brown, sinister looking envelope with the handy bot knife that was at the side of her breakfast plate. All the rest of her knives where in the sink as she just doesn't have time to do dishes these days.

In bold blue letters at the top of the formal looking letter she glanced at the words:

Land Agency


This was the moment she had been dreading! A developer had been hounding the landowner to sell him the land to build a housing estate on it.:eek:

As her hands begin to shake, her body begins to tremple and she feels the tears welling up in her eyes and trickling down her face tasting like the salt lick in Dandelion's stable.

The floor board creaked behind her. She heard an inhaled wheezy breath and smelt stale smoker's breath mixed with a cocktail of Special Brew and Blue Nun. She quickly turned around to see Alfie, her husband, who had surfaced from his drunken sleep.......

Heehee, this is great! I will have a try...

The sound of crunching gravel heralds the arrival of a very shiny black Landrover Discovery. The dark, saturnine driver takes off his dark glasses and steps out, narrowly missing soiling his Italian leather shoes in a large pool of horse wee. It is Darren, who is searching for a suitable yard for his young daughter's show jumping pony, Fanta.

Following the distinctive sound of a smoker's cough, he heads across to the YO's house, where he pushes the half-open door. Across the floor, he sees Carrie standing in a ray of dusty sunlight, tears streaking her beautiful tanned face. Their eyes meet....

Hee hee, I enjoyed reading that LD - it is fact isn't it or fiction? Incidentally the PHIL you're talking about's surname doesn't begin with an 'I' does it - just that I know a Phil whose a Surrey farrier :D

... but it's the soul version, with a suitable diva singing(Who? any suggestions?) and loads of sax(aphone)...

Darren forgets what he came to say, so taken is he with the vision of Carrie!
But here's Alfie to jog him into reality: "All right mate? Lost yer way?"
"Er, yes," gulps Carrie, clearly dazed, clutching the letter with the awful news, "Do you need something?"
Darren's dark eyes look amused and seem to say: "Yes, I sure do!"

Somene else at the farmhouse door(which duly wobbles as they tap before entering), and it's TAMARA. "I've just come to say I'm fed up with being the only person round here who fills up the water in the boys' field! I've just spent half an hour doing it and now I'm late for work and what are you going to do about it?!!"
Carrie is outraged and embarassed, Darren looks surprised, and Alfie laughs.

Suddenly, there's a tremendous whinnying from the stable block, and all three rush to the doorway to see......

Oh no! I hope Phil's been paying attention to what he's been doing! :D

Phil is holding his hammer.. aloft..

"Wait it's not what you think!" cries Phil, seeing the crowd gathering...

"Oh my God- someone catch Cinnamon before she gets out onto the road- here- " Carrie, (panting from her sprint across from the house), throws a headcollar and leadrope at Jed, (who's gaping, whey-faced, at Vera's prone form on the concrete ground).
Darren, who has arrived a second behind Carrie, grabs Phil's arm (but is careful not to get blood from the hammer on his shirt), whilst Carrie is talking in urgent tones on her mobile: "Yes, ambulence please and quick!"

Tamara: "We need the police, Carrie, the POLICE! " and she grabs the phone

"Don't get the police" cried a distraught Phil.. "it wasn't me.. I found her like this." Vera leaps to her feet in pretend anger... "who dug that hole?"

"A likely story" Amelia had arrived at the scene to see Phil standing over Vera with Darren holding him back. "that's the last time you two time me with that Vera." She spat at Phil, breast heaving "She's years older than you, and look at that poo she's got on her face. Ha! No wonder she's had so many money worries with your expensive tastes. I wondered where that Ferrari had come from" She grabs the hammer from Darren...

"No, Amelia, please don't. I can't help it... Not my good farriering arm..... AAArgh"......

I think Amelia was shutting the stable door after the horse had bolted ... :rolleyes:

"Hey everybody, it was the bl****y RAT! " yells Phil
"Yeah, you can say that again" spits Amelia
"He's right," explains Vera, "The blinking rat shot out of the straw at me, and Phil swiped it with his hammer! I can't stand the sight of blood, so I passed out!"
Jed, having successfully caught Amelia's mare, Cinnamon Girl, looking shamefaced, tells everyone that he , too, can't stand the sight of blood.

'Aaaw, Jed mate," says Vera, "I always knew we had a lot in common.."

Jed's face turns from greyish to pink.....

der,der, der, der whoohwhooh whooo!
Here come de Fuzz and the ambulance.....

Amelia aims a blow at Phil's nose with her handbag, which is v. heavy as full of makeup and money- and he hits the deck.
"Ello ello, what happears to be 'appenin' ere then?" It's PC WILSON, and he's not impressed......

Vera and Amelia have a sit down with a cup of coffee to calm down after their experiences that day.
Its been a long time since so much has happened at The Yard.
"Tell you what though Vera" says Amelia. "You know that Robert - the new groom - did you know hes taken to wearing a bra".
"Bloody hell, who would have thought it - seemed such a butch geezer as well".
Both women fall into a stunned silence as Robert enters.
"Hey girls, you dont think this eyeliner is a bit much?"
The phone rings....................

The phone rings....................

...from Vera's jodhs pocket; she pulls it out with a quick flourish, and answers, looking anxious.
Amelia leaves the tearoom for the loo.
(Robert hangs about, peering at himself in the wall-mirror by the kettle)

In the darkening evening outside, Amelia makes her way to the portaloo behind the haybarn. A bat flitters by her head, the breeze whispers in the willows, and she shivers a little.
Something moves just in the periphery of her vision, and she turns to see a figure advancing towards her...

Back in the tearoom, phonecall finished, Vera stares into space, biting hard at her lip.

Hee hee - its true - we are all mad - I want to write more but have friends coming to stay so must clean house and do horsey stuff.

Also, me too rips ,I'm a bit lost so need to make notes on all of this to see where we have got to.

The creative wheels are turning in my head, though!!!

Keep the soap running and I'll look at the repeats when I get the house to myself again!

"Amelia I'm desperate." Phil looms out of the darkness. "I knew you wanted me really," gasps Amelia, heart pounding. "No, I'm DESPERATE" shouts Phil, pushing Amelia out of the way and slamming the door of the Portaloo behind him. Amelia's heart sinks.

Back in the tearoom Vera staunches the blood from her lip and makes a decision... She jumps up scattering bourbon biscuits hither and thither, watching them being devoured eagerly by Smudge the yard dog." I know what I'm going to do!" She rushes out of the tearoom and bumps into a familiar figure "Oh my god it's you..."

It was Robert, his make up streaked with tears.
"I needed to tell you Robert - I,m actually a man" gasped Vera, as Robert took her in his strong arms.
"Maybe we should form a rock band" suggested Robert. "We could call ourselves Stable Trannies".
Now Vera relaxed against him. She had a purpose for her life and neednt go to Margate to live with her aunt Beryl. This had come just in time.
But Amelia would be very jealous, and she had her own problems...................


How far can this plot go!!!!!!!!!?????????

How dreadful her nails were looking and resolved to drop into "Talons" on the way home to get them sorted. She had a job to do, and that was to make Phil want her like he'd wanted no other girl before. She was NOT used to being passed over and ignored; she was MAD.

CARRIE: She's the YO. who rents the yard. A letter came from The Land Agency to tell her the farm is going to be built on, so she's devastated.WHAT TO DO?????
Her marriage to ALFIE was probably a mistake; he has an alcohol problem.

But there's been other trouble..

PHIL the gorg. farrier and AMELIA the equibabe have had a fight.

At the same time, an incident with VERA, (mature rider), and JED,( mature equine back man) and Phil's hammer causes the arrival of emergency services.

Vera is penniless and thinking of selling her home so she can keep her three horses. She and Jed seem to be forming a friendship- it MAY become more than that, hopes Jed. Will Vera end up moving in with Jed? She doesn't actually fancy him, so is she just a USER???

To add to the problem, Vera thinks she may be a man...

TAMARA:- top busybody and knowitall is always there in the mix to stir it up

DARREN:- Rich, suave, dark and handsome. He's arrived on the scene to find a livery place for his daughter's pony... but he finds more to interest him in the shape of the beautiful, sad, Carrie....!

ROBERT:- is the new groom; he's having an identity crisis too and worries about his eyeliner...

SMUDGE:- the yard dog (one of them)!

DANDELION(Carrie's horse??) and CINNAMON GIRL( Amelia's TB)

TITLE MUSIC:- based on "White Horses" by Jackie( as requested by IMP!!)

Little Dolphins, what a brilliant sum-up!
I am now waiting for someone to develop the character of Auntie Beryl in Margate.
And I think the wicked land agent ought to be related to someone already in the plot.
People have been seen late at night, measuring the buildings and making phone calls.
Alfie has been to see a counsellor about his alcohol problem and has discovered dark shadows in his past.
And Amelia wants to have a baby - but how and with who........................

Now that everyone has had a chance to exercise their imaginations and entertain the board, I propose to do the proper thing and cause this thread to expire.
When my daughter was asked to end stories at primary school she used to put:
And so.........................they all died!
And if anyone feels moved to do so they can start again with new characters.:D

This wasnt the usual person who came to do his feed.
And why was Vera looking so furtive.

Carrie's alarm went off.

"Ooh what a funny dream" she stretched and leant over to cuddle the always sober, very sexy Alfie "Darling, I dreamt the land agency were going to take over the land. How strange when i know i have all that lovely money dear granny left me. We should get up soon, don't forget we've got Amelia and Phil's wedding this morning. Great news about the baby! Did you speak to Vera?" Alfie stretched and yawned. "Yes, very brave of him. I think he's going to be called Victor, and his relationship with Roberta is going extremely well, they're planning on moving to stay with witch like but rich Aunty Beryl.... and Roberta now has perfect eyeliner! Jed was somewhat disappointed, but kept his chin up and seems to have got over it very quickly. Good news by the way that Tamara the trouble maker has left the yard" "Yes", smiled Carrie, "and how sweet the new and very happily married man Darren is" She smiled sweetly at Alfie and they had a cuddle before getting up and making ready for the wedding.

So everything in the stable yard is indeed rosy and it was, as Whatanejit predicted, all a dream............or was it?

Everything on The Yard is lovely. Lovely people, lovely horses, lovely weather.

Darren Armstrong, the newest arrival, is lovely, too. Carrie has noticed this and put it to the back of her mind; subconsciously, she senses danger!

But it's PORTIA, Darren's daughter, who has her pony, PANACHE, at livery.
What a sweet girl, and what a lovely pony.
