Went for a hack yesterday - a much less beautiful horse this time: a scrubby pony, around 14 hh, who worried me a bit at first because she seemed so little, low head-carriage, not much of a mane and so withers, so quite insecure. But she was sweet-natured, very willing, and we came to an agreement that I wouldn't use my stick if she would resist the temptation of nose-high bracken, brambles and branches ....After the first half-hour she didn't seem small, although she had to go pretty well flat out to keep up when the two big horses cantered ...

I have heard good and bad things about this school. This time I noticed that the tack needed mending and wasn't very clean, and the girl who led the ride could only just manage her horse (not that she was a bad rider, the horse was a handful); the third rider was a young holidaymaker, her horse was beautiful but would not stop eating.

Good things: I feel fitter already - didn't expect to feel the effects so soon - and much braver. than before. And not even stiff today, although I found the four flights of stairs up to my daughter's new flat a real challenge ...

LindaLOL.... I am like that every time I have more than a couple of weeks without riding! Stairs are terrible aren't they? So is crossing your legs when you're sat in the chair at work! :p

Lol well done! I would not have contemplated the stairs, insisting that my daughter bring a cuppa down lol.

Not much chance of that, little me - I was supposed to be helping her move in to the new flat! Still, I was so knackered after carrying up one armful of stuff that she let me off the rest ...
