one or two of you already know the story of rommy so please bear with me.. for the rest rommys story is rather long so i will try and condense it :)
rommy is a 7/8DWB 1/8TB and is now 7 years old, i bought him two years ago just rising 5 he had been backed and turned away, unfortunatly for him he was sent to a yard to be finished of prior to selling him. i wont go into exactly what happened to him but he was kept in the lorry overnight to teach him a lesson because he did not load very well:eek: while there he was also pulled over backwards  and god knows what else, his owner found out and immediately brought him home. and he was sold locally.
i saw him and thought he had something, he was then about 15.0hh
considering what he had gone through he was a star and walked straight onto the lorry
got him home and found we had a problem he was a complete bag of nerves, in the stable you could not touch him suddenly if you raised your hand to stroke him he would fly across the stable to get away from you, he was in a terrible state, and when you sat on him he was so tense and had a bronking fit etc' etc' (i even got in touch with julie dicker will save that for another thread)
so i basically gave him the year of we did lots of ground work and he joined up with me within 10 mins of our first schooling, 99% of the work was loose schooling i did lunge him a couple of times too start with but after that it was all loose and we jumped looses as well.
during this year he changed completely and became so trusting towards us it was great . but at the end of the year he would still get very tense when ridden more so on right rein, probably the rein he was pulled over on.
so in dec' last year i sent him away to be re-schooled with a friend they took him back to basics and did a lovely job with him got him hacking out but he still had his bronking fits.
in june they thought they had got as far as they could with him, so i had him back and he is now with the guy who weaned him and backed him originally, and they have done wonders with him richard who rides him is so quite and when rommy gets tense he just gives him the rein and he relaxes straight away, he is now cantering on the left and right rein consistantly and so much more relaxed and happier, allthough he still has a funny moment every now and again but these are getting fewer and farther between...
on tuesday this week he had his first ever jumping lesson with someone on his back and he was great, last night he jumped his first little spread.
below are some pics of this, i know richard does not wear a hat or the proper shoes etc' but i can't make him:( the last pic show him having a moment.

Echo W'jit - a wonderful story and *definitely* not too long!
It beggars belief that in this day and age, with all the information and debate and knowledge that's around, people can still think they'll get results from treating a horse like that
Well done poohsmate for sticking with him and showing so much patience - the pics are fabulous :)

Blimey Norman, he's a big horsey.
When you talk about your 'youngster' I never really thought he'd be that big and fiery.
By the way, my mates thinks the guy riding him is cute...single, age, gay??

So you finally chose to wrote a post about the wonderful Rommy. I was going to suggest you post those pictures to a thread, and you did just that! :) Great minds think alike, n'est-ce pas? Rommy is such a gorgeous horse - real stage presence. He'll impress all when he's out on the show circuit.

What are your plans for him?
hi galadriel
i would like to do everything with him:) i have a major birthday milestone coming up next year and my one great ambition is to do an BHs intro ode before i shuffle off:D :D i did a few events on pooh bear 12years ago and i want to have another go... failing that i really got into dressage after pooh and that is what i intend doing most of.... but seeing the way rommy jumps who knows :D :D
i appreciate the feedback everyone, it's been along time, and i have a fair way to go yet;) but im so glad i stuck with him. he is an absolute angel to handle and just loves being with people, even after what he has gone through:)
The guy who's now schooling rommy, met the bloke who did the horrible things to rommy. and his first words to my trainer were, (i hear you have that mad black B-----d...he's F-----g dangerous and wants shooting:( )
i think we would all agree that there is some shooting that wants doing:D :D

I'm suprised your hotty trainer didn't smack him one in the mouth then lock him in a horse box overnight to teach him a lesson.......

You know i hear of so many people who speak like this yet are always proved wrong in the end. I have had a couple who have branded Aramis a 'psycho', and 'not worth bothering with' yet she is a complete plod really and has alot of worth, she is a special horse.

Wow, well done, what a stunning horse!! I'm very jealous indeed! (apart from the bucking bit, but oscar does that and hasn't the excuse of having been badly treated either!). He is lucky to have such a caring and understanding owner and trainer as well.

Wow, what a glorious story- at least the part where things look up for Rommy when he finds you, Pooh's mate!
I just had to tell my OH about the cruel, cruel horsebox treatment, and he wanted to get up and find that guy right away for a good seeing to grrrrrrr:mad:
What a fantastic rider that young chap is; I so admire his spirit!
And you are great for taking such time to find the way for Rommy to flourish.

you'll have no bother getting round an intro course on a horse with a jump like that. Rommy is just lovely. He's a credit to everyone who's turned his life around and got him back on track.
How anyone could pull a horse over, or shut them up in a lorry i do not know

Just caught up with this thread as I've been away for bit -
Norman - Rommy is gorgeous and a very lucky horse to have found you - I hope he continues to improve and wish you all the luck in the world with him - you definitely deserve it for taking him on when others had given up on him. I hope your trainer punched that guy on the nose when he met him (I know I would have done!).
You should have pretended that was you in the photos - your fan club would definitely have grown:D Those of us who've met you wouldn't have let on :p

Its amazing what some horses can go through - yet with the right guidance and love can come out the other side and then the people you meet from there on in sometimes think you were sold a gem, not realising all the hard work you both have put in!! :)
Pictures are great - he looks a stunner with the right amount of spark :)

Well i'll def. say Rommy is lovely! What a fantastic jump he's got in him. He looks like he has moments just like my lass, although i don't sit them as easily as that lad.
It just goes to show that with a little bit of care and experienced hands a horse will work with you. I'm pretty sure there's now a queue of people waiting with rather large schooling whips to meet the "horsebox" chap in the back of a lorry, what a piece of scum  I'm so glad that Rommy has ended up with caring owners. :)
p.s and the bit of young eye candy ain't three bad either :p

again thanks to you all for the great comments, i must say there have been times over the last two years when i had a few doubts about whether we would get this far:(
and it is only really in the last two months that i can see a real change in him mentally.. he is just great now and good fun to be around:D :D
i have put another couple of pics on,the first is his first day with me in june 2004, and the second was yesterday after he had just jumped a 1m 10cm high spread with absolute ease:D :D. quite a difference in him....
and to keep all you girls in suspense re richard a view from the back lol :D :D
