Well after spending the last half an hour trying to figure out the whole registering process I'm not quite sure where to start...I started riding two weeks ago and have been walking round with a daft grin on my face ever since!
I found a lovely little stables near where I live and poodled along for my first lesson with all the trepidation of a 30 something who has never been on a horse before. Managed to get on board without making a show of myself and off we went. It was a one to one lesson and the instructor was fab. To cut a long story short by the end of the lesson I had done a passable rising trot! My RI said that I had good balance and was suprised that I hadn't ridden before! Hence the trot! How chuffed was I...although alot probably to do with the lovely Champ that I was riding. I have had two more lessons since and am working on my change of reign and trot (can't quite grasp the nudge on the trot).
My only regret not having done this years ago! My youngest came to watch yesterday and when asked by my eight year old what it was like he said that Mummy did alot of bouncing!!!
Anyway I came across this web site and found it very helpful and thought it would be lovely to chat with someone in the same boat as me! My RI is away next week and already I am feeling a tadge twitchy about not having a riding lesson for at least 10 days. No horsey talk!
Good weekend to all

Don't worry you can come on here and get all the horse talk you will ever need.
Good on you for taking up the riding, it's so much more challenging when you're that little bit older.
I always worried about falling off....so what, bones mend:eek:
Welcome by the way.
I'm Karen, have a 14.2 mare called Bryony, pics below, started riding at 21 (that was 2 years ago), it's my BIRTHDAY, wooohoooo and NR is my second home.

Hi there, I'm Cal and I started riding in may at the grand old age of 45, I too can't wait for my next lesson and walk round with a silly grin on my face.
I'm learning to canter at the moment.

Hi Katrina
Welcome on board. I'm a bit of a dinosaur (over 50 yrs old) :D . I'm a "lurker" - read the board every day, but only post occasionally. I live in Queensland, Australia and have three horses with one on the way (3rd Oct). They are all spoilt rotten and have pretty lazy, laid back lives.
Yes as the others have said - you can always get your horse fix on NR

Sounds like you had a great lesson - doesn't it just make you wish you done it sooner????! I'm 36 and had been out of the saddle for ooh, 21 years (blushes) and I couldn't believe how much fun it was! Its much better than I remembered!!! This is a great site, I've learnt a lot on here!! Its friendly too and in my "darkest working hours" I get a horsey fix......hehe!!

What a fab bunch of replies! I'm still trying to figure out the whole forum thing it's all new to me so apologies for not sending any personal replies as I am not sure what the protocol is or whether that seemed too pushy...feel free to PM me for a chat though. I'm not even sure as to where this reply will appear:confused:
I am astounded at how widespread you all are and how friendly.
So Thanks again oh and thanks for the piccies I am an artist and am feeling very inspired by them!

Welcome Katrina!
I'm another one who started late and can't stop grinning! I had my first riding lesson for my birthday a year ago today, and as it's something I've wanted to do all my life and never have I am completely 'teenage' about it (sorry you teenagers out there - I suspect you are far more sensible and less drippy about horses than I am!). I found NR soon after and have never looked back - this is the friendliest and most supportive board on the internet! Be warned it is extremely addictive, and we want pics and updates all the time :D

Hi Katrina - welcome to NR
I took up riding relatively late in life and bought my first horse a year ago a little while after my 50th birthday. Its a totally different way of life - I love it.
Looking forward to hearing more from you.
Karen
